RTH, I agree with you.
Yet I have to say that I don't know Taylor's work enough.
Listen to 'Ivy'. It is a song from the perspective of a married woman to her lover. And for a second try 'Style,' my favorite TS song and one that I will play at my hypothetical wedding.
Looks like Taylor will take some heat of KJo for a while.
I listened to both (with lyrics)...so beautifully written and sung...
I still find that she isn't glorifying cheating, just telling little stories about different kinds of cheating/adjusting to cheating/fearing to get caught...
To me, it's using this subject to tell something...and Karan did the same.
It made more sense to me in KANK (it's more the way he portraed Dev that bothered me)....and I was disappointed because I found RARPKP could have been a better movie (but it's not the thread here to elaborate that).

@bold - really. Until now I thought it was the opposite.
It's my thread. Elaborate on anything you want.
I'll get started.
100% with you with Dev in KANK. His character was an asshole. There were definitely many incompatibilities between him and his wife. I could understand why he sought love outside his marriage, but I couldn't root for him at all. Maya was a lot more sympathetic. While I don't condone the cheating, I was rooting for Maya to find a relationship that fulfills her.
I laid out a lot about RARKPK in my review. I completely get why Dharmendra was pursuing Shabana Azmi. He had an arranged marriage where his wife never appreciated the kind of person he was. Not only did she not bestow any affections on him, but she also deprived him of his own son's affections. He gave up on the potential love of his life to keep his family together. Years of resentment, regret, and pining brought him to this point.
What didn't sit well with me was the one-note character of Jaya Bachchan. Some sort of backstory would have given her nuance and made the story more palatable. The movie also missed fleshing out the dementia/Alzheimer's aspect. Dharmendra's character clearly suffers from dementia and is not lucid most of the time. People's awareness of their relationships and reality can be very tenuous as the brain deteriorates in old age. And a lot of times you have to go with the flow.
The lack of nuance around that also made it seem very uncomfortable as well. For example, I would never ever encourage a grandparent or any family member to pursue an old flame without ending their current relationship. But if a loved one was suffering from dementia and seeing their end of days, I would go out of my way to make their final days as comfortable and happy as possible.
Gosh...I wanted to write:
I still find that she isn't glorifying cheating...but I got distracted and didn't verify what I wrote... (I've edited it now)
It's so refreshing to meet like-minded people. I agree on everything you wrote about KANK and what you wrote here about Karan's new film.
I suppose, I simply found it unfair to Jaya's character how she was treated by the storywriter and I equally found that Karan forced the pace for the first encounter of the lovers... and honestly, there wasn't really the need for a kiss on the lips as there hadn't been the need for showing SRK and Rani making love (although both did it very well)... not for Indian family audience...(Western audience mostly is used to even more).

Haha. That's why I asked. I thought we were on the same page and then was confused.
I could go on so much about both movies.
But other movies that deal with extramarital affairs/cheating sensitively are Astitva and Masoom.
How is Taylor even winning this
Oh yes, Masoom! I watched the movie for so many reasons, the least one was the story as I knew the book (which didn't matter).
Such a good film...and a classic, now.
I 'stumbled' about the movie when researching about two of the youth actors in Mohabbatein (Jimmy Sheirgill and Jugal Hansraj).
Because of Shabana, I came to Deepa Mehta...and so on, and so on
It was my early way into the Hindi filmindustry: starting from an SRK movie...and then following the chain (which just reminds me of the Kevin Bacon game )
No wonder why I dislike both of them
How is Taylor even winning this
I am amused at Taylor taking the heat of KJO
Some theories
- People genuinely think Taylor glorifies cheating
- Illicit Affairs + High Infidelity > KANK + RARKPK
- People like KJo so voted for TSwift
- People dislike KJo and want him to lose all polls
- People like Swift so voted for Swift
- People dislike Swift so voted for Swift
- Misogyny and anti-Taylorism
- People like me and decided to make Swift win
- People dislike me and decided to make Swift win for cheating
Many others I may have missed.
