But tell me one thing, towards the end of gen1 ghum, when virat went crazy for sai & decided to divorce pakhi, as suggested by the elder lady (head of the family), didn't he thought of his vaada/zimmedaari?

I just felt that he ,all of a sudden, was desperate to be with sai, after seeing her with the parallel lead.

Even when he was always chummy with Pakhi he would not tolerate any man close to Sai.

Pre leap, till 500 episodes way way better.

Post leap definitely one of the worst positive male leads itv might have seen.He left his wife and kids to die in this vaada to bhabi nonsense.
