Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani has emerged a HIT film due a phenomenal run in oversaes where it will close at $20 million and if not it will be very close. The business in India is very good at a few centres and thanks to that it is a pretty decent overall in India. The film is basically like some of those Shahrukh Khan starrers in the past where Oversaes takes the film to HIT status when India could have been better.
The India business is a little better than Tu Jhooti Main Makkaar but the gap is mainly Mumbai and Mysore which combined will be 12 crore nett higher. The big difference is Overseas which will be almost 4 times higher. The film continus to go strong in US / Canada and is already among the top five films ever in the circuit with only Pathaan, Dangal, Padmaavat and PK ahead. The United Kingdom will; probably have to settle for 11th place after all the £2 million plus films.while Australia could also make top five like US / Canada.
Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani also has fantastic numbers in Gulf at around $3.6 million but this market is best not compared to pre pandemic releases just yet as it does not seem to be doing the numbers like before. Outside Pathaan the $2 million mark is proving a task with only Brahmastra just sqeezing past so on those tems the $3.6 million is excellent for Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani.
Going forward the results of Rocky Rani Ki Prem Kahaani and Tu Jhooti Main Makkaar are probably not big enough to keep this love story / rom com genre alive at this level and 200 crore budgets. They will have to be made with lower budgets and casts will be weaker. Films like Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani are low on testosterone when the need of the hour is high testosterone levels like Gadar 2 especially for the male leads to push careers so this will make it harder for the more successful male leads to work in this genre. But its always a cycle and things can change again in time.
