Cool feature.
Can the default name be our UN and we get to hide our names (so that our uns are in IF level colour and bold and the un in black's display is hidden) or something like that so that we can choose if we want our names to be visible or no?
Also, rn the display name field doesn't allow special characters so I can't use my in as it is
Well that would mean too many checks to draw each post and wont be consistent.
Regarding the inclusion of the underscore (_) in Display Names, we've given this careful consideration. Our primary goal with the introduction of Display Names is to allow members to indicate how they'd like to be addressed on the forum. This not only streamlines communication but also fosters a sense of community and connection among members.
To ensure clarity and simplicity in discussions, we've chosen to limit certain special characters in Display Names.
There are a few reasons behind this decision:
- Simplicity: We believe that limiting the use of special characters will make Display Names easier to read and remember, promoting smoother interactions on the platform.
- Avoiding Over-creativity: While we cherish the creative spirit of our members, past experiences suggest that too much flexibility can lead some members to craft intricate ASCII art or overly complex names. This can sometimes detract from the main purpose of discussions and make threads harder to follow.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

- Language Consistency: We recognize the rich linguistic diversity of our members. However, allowing special characters might enable users to write Display Names in regional languages or scripts, which not everyone might understand. We aim to keep the platform as inclusive as possible for all our members.
That being said, we want to emphasize that our policies and features are not set in stone. We are continuously listening to feedback from our members and evaluating the possibilities. Your input is a crucial part of this evaluation process, and we genuinely value your perspective.
We hope you understand our current stance. Please know that we're always open to hearing more from you and making adjustments as needed to enhance the user experience.
