While the narrative for the series has centred around Jasprit Bumrah's much-awaited comeback and Prasidh Krishna's as well to a certain degree, these three games in Ireland were also seen as an opportunity for the other fringe players who are looking to make a case for themselves to get into India's primary team. Both Bumrah and Prasidh had pretty good outings in the opening game on Friday (August 18). In fact, Bumrah took just two balls to strike and ended up picking two wickets in his very first over and Prasidh struck in his first over as well. Both the pacers will be looking to carry forward that momentum as they look to get back to their best after long layoffs.

However, the batters would now hope for some much-needed time out in the middle as well after rain hampered their chances in the first T20I. Chasing a modest 140, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma before rain arrived and ruined any chances of the rest getting a hit out in the middle.

The next two games are definitely vital for the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube. While Samson needs runs to ensure he remains in the reckoning for a spot in the ODI World Cup, the likes of Gaikwad, Rinku and Dube will be looking to make an impression to ensure they are considered in future T20 fixtures on the road to the World Cup next year in the Caribbean.

For Ireland, it's vital that they don't go 2-0 down already with a game to spare especially against a second-string visiting side. They did exceedingly well to get to 139 after losing half their side for just 31. Barry McCarthy stunned India with a quickfire fifty but it's the top order that needs to come to the party if Ireland are to put up a fight with the bat.

The average score at the venue in Dublin is around 166. Batting may not be all that easy and teams should opt to field first after winning the toss.

Team Watch

Ireland

While Ireland do have options up their sleeve to make changes, the hosts would want to stick to the same combination and give their batters another go against India's pace attack.

Probable XI: Paul Stirling (C), Andrew Balbirnie, Lorcan Tucker (WK), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Mark Adair, Barry McCarthy, Craig Young, Joshua Little, Benjamin White

India

It's highly unlikely that India will be making any changes to their batting lineup. On the bowling front, Avesh Khan or Mukesh Kumar might get a go in place of Arshdeep Singh if the visitors opt to rotate.

Probable XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson (WK), Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna, Ravi Bishnoi, Jasprit Bumrah (C), Arshdeep Singh/Avesh Khan

In the spotlight - Gaikwad and McCarthy

Ruturaj Gaikwad survived a mix-up with Jaiswal in the second over of the chase to remain unbeaten on 19 before rain stopped play. He had a successful IPL season where he scored 590 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of 147. With the team management making him the captain for the Asian Games, scheduled for September end, Gaikwad will be hoping to get some big scores before heading to the tournament.

Barry McCarthy provided a reminder of his batting prowess in the opener, scoring an unbeaten 51 off 33 from No. 8 to lift Ireland from 59 for 6. The allrounder had also finished as the joint-second-highest wicket-taker for Ireland with nine wickets from five matches in the recent T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier.

Quotes

"Ireland have been playing well, you can't say that any team is big or small in T20 cricket. In this format, in one over everything can change, just like the last over in this game. If those two wickets didn't fall, there would be a difference of 10-12 runs. It was because of Sanju and Ruturaj we finished the match. So Ireland have been doing well in this format."
