1. A massy entertainer will always work, big-screen audiences love that shite

2. Non-Internet audiences think differently than Indian audiences, reviews don't really matter to them, if the trailer packs a punch they will go to see it

3. It fits right into the current political climate of larger-than-life nationalism and pop patriotism

Do you guys agree?

Alos, I don't think that the movie worked because of Sunny Deol, but because it was part of a very popular franchise. Gadar 1 was very popular, and the makers have kept the nostalgia factor intact by repeating 2 songs from the movie.

I haven't seen Gadar 2 yet...but my friends told me the craze around the film is insane.

Don't pay twitter influencers any money to hype your film.Don't waste it on events, meet the press, interviews, city tours. Save that money. If your film is bad..just buy the tickets of your film.Bulk booking has been normalised.Organic blockbuster comes only once in a few years. Film makers/stars have to survive. BUY THOSE TICKETS.

Gadar was one of the biggest blockbusters ever. Now, with hypernationalism at its peak, the success doesn't surprise me.

The nostalgia factor - being an organic sequel - Sunny Deol still the action hero - keeping two songs from Gadar - having a straight forward plot with X versus Y - building-up of a public-spiritedness - Independence Day fitting...

It's all of this... and it came in a 'right' time ...mass audience (especially single screens audience) longed for a movie like this...if I remember right, the previous year, it had been a rather disappointing Independance Day-movie-time.

If Gadar 2 had been the only film to release at this time, it would have smashed all the records with ease... don't underestimate the feeling of nostalgia...it even surpasses the love for one actor by miles...

That written, I hope they won't do a Gadar 3...no further sequal will get the same amount of nostalgia where every flaw in the plot and acting (etc) becomes irrelevant (imo).

Like Gadar this movie is a one-time-event...

Yeah if the tide was against it this movie would have been a disaster, no matter how big it was 20 years back.

If you make PK2 today with the same message it would underperform.

It would have gotten another plot - if it got even made...the political situation built up since 2014 certainly gave the idea to profit from the nostalgia for Gadar.

But I think one shouldn't underestimate audiences...I don't think that another movie trying to profit from a (religion-based) nationalism will get this outstanding success.

Which movie of the past would have this kind of cult status one can explore/profit from with an organic sequel propagating the current political goals and concept of enemy...

It was also a very good opportunity to mint money, I think. Zee Studios are the main producers (belongs to Zee Entertainment whose main shareholder is SonyEntertainmentIndia, the Indian branch of Sony)

Nationalism almost always works. It has nothing to do with the political climate. It’s why a Chak De India works, it’s why the only dialogue anyone remembers in all of Namaste London is that iconic dialogue by Akki about India. So no, I don’t agree with point 3.

I watched the movie. I didn’t get any patriotic feelings during or after watching it. It’s just mad action which people are loving.

Where was this thread during Pathaans release? Just replace sequel with India's biggest Spyverse franchise.

If people think Gadar's Hyper Mania is because of some political climate.....they don't know Gadar and the way it connected with people, at all. Also why is there such a negative connotation attached with "Nationalism"? It's a positive thing.
