I think that he wanted to get married to Kalika's mother, but Kalika's NANA (Mother's Father) threatened Narpat to go away from his daughter's life as Narpat was poor and Kalika's mother from a Rich Family. Thats why he had to go away but he did not know that Kalika's mother was pregnant at that time.

Or Could be, Narpat's dad had promissed Ambika's dad for the marriage of the two and due to Narpat's dad's promise he had to marry Ambika..

Could be any one of the above right!
