Disagree. Beta, Prem Granth, Mrityudand, Anjaam, Pukar, Lajja all were meaty roles. She had plenty to do. I’m sure I’m forgetting many others

She is one female actor who rarely did flower pot roles.

If Kajol is saying Madhuri wasn't able to make a name as an actor, yeah. But it wasn't because of lack of opportunity. She was a mega star, and her stardom gave her every chance there was to act. She couldn't make a mark.

She was a mega star.. highly appreciated, very much loved, highest paid.. people were crazy about her..and she got better roles than most other actors too.

But movies of the time were kind of overdramatic, over the top and filled with histrionics. And she being a great dancer, her songs became more popular. If one says Madhuri people instantly recollect ek do deen or Didi tera devar deewana..movies ke naam bhi baad me yaad aate hai, scenes ki to baat hi chhodo.

Kajol probably means a strong role like Bandini, Sujata, Umraojaan kind.

Instead what she got? Raja, Beta, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, Koyla, Dayavan, Tezaab,Saajan, Devdas, Tridev, Kishan Kanhaiya, Jamai Raja, Thanedaar, Rajkumar

I actually think Madhuri was a bit overrated. She always looked like an Aunty to me and her acting was really flat.

She was really only popular for her provocative dance moves. That’s why she’s still trying to do that today and no one cares about her so called acting. Literally no one talks about her “acting”.

Call me crazy but I prefer Kajol’s line of work.

Tabu started out with Sanjay Kapoor of all people. She still got Maachis, Chandni Bar, etc, because people realized she could act. Manisha Koirala started with the same Subhash Ghai, but Mani Ratnam noticed her.

Prakash Jha gave Madhuri a chance, but she was meh in Mrityudand. Lajja was another one. Even later in life, she got Gulab Gang.

The lady was a superstar, no doubt. But calling her an underrated actor is like calling Rajni Kanth an underrated actor. Neither can actually act beyond a certain point.

I absolutely love Manisha..but which movies? Tabu is a phenomenal actor but her stardom doesn't equal that.

So either u can be a phenomenal actor or a phenomenal star? Women can't have it all.

@bold. Where did you get that from what I said? Madhuri is one woman. She is not entire woman kind.

Sridevi was both a star and a great actor. Priyanka, Nutan, Waheeda, Sharmila, Dimple, Rani Mukherjee... the list goes on.

Amitabh was a super star and a great actor. Rajesh Khanna was mainly a star. What's the point in saying he was underrated as an actor when there was nothing to rate?

Enjoy the series. Art is subjective, anyway.

Only sensible thing she’s said. MD is a very under-rated actor! She can do comedy really well & that’s super hard. On that note, Juhi Chawla is far more under-rated than even MD!!
