I suck at posting Insta reels/vids on here but Atomonis’ topic indirectly spoke about queer representation in Indian cinema and came across this gem of an interview of Shabana Azmi today. She basically says “if you have to bring change through cinema, it has to happen through mainstream cinema, because that’s what the audiences are watching. When you tackle these issues in independent/parallel cinema/artsy movies, you’re already preaching to the converted” and man I could not agree more!👏and this is exactly why a PC playing a Mary Kom may be problematic on many levels, but i’d still argue she was the right choice.
