If the series had stuck with the storyline based on Cyanide Mohan.. it would have been better. In the series Anand who is from an upper caste.. is portrayed with his father discriminating against the lower caste. They have kind of shown that this portrayal somewhat justifies Anand's actions as a product of his upbringing.
While In real life, Cyanide Mohan belonged to the SC caste, his father had left their house.. and Mohan and his siblings were raised by their mother. His brother worked as a daily wage earner. But in the show, his brother is shown as a jewelry store owner just to show upper caste discriminating lowe caste angle.
Then the unnecessary addition of the Thakur and Altaf story shows the Thakur family torturing an innocent Muslim man. All the police officers are portrayed as careless, while the only hardworking IT professional is shown as a Muslim.
There is a police officer who is always shown busy with pooja and is unwilling to listen to a brother's plea about his missing sister.. whenever he is shown he is holding aggarbati in his hand.
It is clear that the creators intended to package propaganda with a good series, which becomes obvious once you know the show is produced by Akhtars.
Watched Dahaad (& Farzi) just recently where star kids seemingly were the lead/protagonist (bagged the role clearly because of their star status) but honestly , found the performance of character actors like Gulshan Deviah , Bhuwan Arora , Sohum etc. to be clearly superior i.e. grounded than the star kids . Possessing required calibre / finesse for proper acting , no wonder their characters came out very very familiar , true to life sort you know . On the other hand , Sonakshi's performance (the facial expressions , demeanour , DD) in an 'angry young woman' character at times felt like she was looking more for a typical Bolly 'seetimaar performance' . Like a reel one not real (now don't come up with "then how else does one plays out such a character ??" , go notice Om Puri in Ardha Satya or Seema Vishwas in BQ) . And to top it up was the regional accent that clearly was coming out as artificial (now don't come up with "that's not her mother tongue dumbo" , go watch Deepak Shinde of Sacred Games played out by a Punjabi from Delhi) .
Wonder how would have it gone for me if it was Radhika Apte instead ? Even Shruti Vyas in her small time role nailed it finely .
Though having said that , Dahaad was otherwise very well, thoughtfully made for the most part I must say . And last but not the least , a shout out to Vijay Verma i.e. master Anand Sir for valuable lessons on Machiavellianism !
