Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani Decent Start
Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani took a decent start for the genre though not accordance to the costs which post pandmeic you know its not going as these films in this genre were green lighted pre pandemic on big budgets which would not happen now due to how the box office has changed. The comparison for the film will be Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and the morning collections are better but that is because Tu Jhooti Main Makkaar was a holiday release and collections in the morning on that day are very low.
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar went on to do 14 crore nett thanks to the Holi holiday post afternoon push and that will not happen for Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani. The film though will comfortably get into double digits which was a must for the film. There are block bookings for the film over the weekend which has been happening for almost every major film in the last few months and may well happen more and more.
The film could have been helped by better music as none of the songs have emerged big enough to really help the film. Its better than most films but more is expected in terms of music from a Karan Johar film. The film is going to be dependent on the major centres as does not have for the mass circuits. The film is more of a family film than compared to Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar but the trailer shows its about the rich which will limit the family audiences in core mass circuits.
The key was putting up some sort of decent number on day one which gives the film a chance and that should happen. If the film went under 10 crore nett it would have been a struggle for even a decent weekend. The film has a North flavour so collections should be better but Ranveer Singh films generally under perform in Punjab and UP so this could show up here also. Again Gujarat / Saurashtra will the key especially as film is aimed at families and that circuit is totally family dominated though its traditional conservative families. If the film sustains here it will be on a good wicket as mass market side its best hope is probably Gujarat compare to other states.
