Please read Hiroshima. It is one of the most realistic and heartbreaking accounts there is of the American bombing of the Japanese city .

I was required to read it for AP American History. But I honestly feel everyone in the world should be required to read it for humanity, AP is when you are considered qualified enough to be taking college level classes at a young high school age in the USA

I am watching the movie right now. I feel it is intentionally so one sided and narrow minded. Perhaps that was Nolan’s point.

There are no two sides to this. What’s wrong is wrong.

Edit: haven’t watched the movie yet. My opinion about the bombing will remain though. It is a huge war crime committed by the Americans. No two ways about it.

Number estimated to be killed by Japanese Imperial Army in WW 2 6-10 million at a MINIMUM between Rape of Nanjing and surrender. Chinese and Korean casualties at Japanese hands prior not included. If you included those deaths, the number becomes 14 or so million. Some have estimated 30 million, even!

FF to August 1945. Germany and Italy surrendered. Japan did not.

1st atomic bomb.

Truman calls for Japan to surrender. They would not.

2nd atomic bomb. Hirohito announced surrender,

Number killed in the 2 bombings - 110,000

The horror of the bomb was in the number of people killed in a matter of seconds. And it is completely horrifying.

However, the matter was not black and white. There was every expectation the emperor's army would continue to kill vastly more numbers.

As if America is incapable of killing people in millions without the help of an atomic bomb.

The horror is not limited to just how many people died then. It’s also about how many people in the future are made to pay for it. Their future generations are forever going to pay for it.I don’t want to debate on this because I simply don’t see any point. I am horrified that anyone would want to, in the first place, Because using the atomic bomb should never be a solution, not even as the last resort. It is indeed black and white.

If you go with a preconceived notion into any topic, there is indeed only black and white.

Talking about color. Chinese, Korean, Mongolian, Russian, Jewish - these were some of the people killed by the Japanese until then. It wasn't white versus oriental as today's woke gen would like to think. Most of those killed by the Japanese army were Asians.

U.S. wasn't even in WW2 until Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.

True, America is no angel. But Japan's war crimes were horrendous by that point. I mean, are you really saying the 30 million didn't matter, U.S. should not have used all means necessary to end the war?

With re: what happened to future generations. I don't think it needs pointing out that that was the first time (and only time) nuclear power was used. The whole idea behind the treaty to never use it again was because people realized the horror.

Anyway, I wanted to leave some facts out here. Rest is up to you. Faith is by definition beyond facts, so believe what you will. Ciao.
