Disclaimer: I'm not Telugu. I believe Nani is an endearment/nickname similar to say Munna .It's his screenname. His real name is Naveen Babu. Curiously I've seen fathers and sons address each other as Nana in Telugu films.

Nana directly translates to father in telugu. Amma-Nana (Mom-Dad). Nana is also used as a term of endearment for children (both boy and girl). Nani is not a term of endearment. It's actually a first name. There was also a Mahesh Babu movie long back called Nani (his first name in the movie).

This reminds me of a hilarious incident. In telugu, to say "aaiye", they use a word which is offensive when said in Hindi. I was having lunch with three Telugu colleagues. Two males and one female. One male and the female were leaving and the guy said to the lady "her name, *****". I almost choked on my food.

The other guy said to me "light le re, woh usku bula ra"

"aaiye" in Hindi translates to "Randi" in Telugu which means welcoming someone with respect. I didn't know Randi is a offensive word in Hindi until I read the above post😆, I have to google what it means in Hindi.

Nani is like "Bunny" for Allu Arjun.

I never knew Nani is only onscreen name for Nani,i really thought his offscreen/real name is Nani too until I read this thread. Never knew his real name is Naveen as someone mentioned in this thread.

Even chiranjeevi's real name is not chiranjeevi, it is " something sounds like varaprasad I read somewhere, I don't remember the word exactly. Chiranjeevi is only onscreen name.

Even Anushka shetty's real name is Sweetie. Anushka shetty was onscreen name given by some producer/director.

Even Nayantara's real name is something else. Nayantara is onscreen name given based on her eyes.

BTW Nani is the same guy who was the hero in Makkhi movie first one hour, later took rebirth of "Makkhi" after killed by a villain in the movie

He is really a very natural actor. One of the finest actors in Tollywood from past decade. One of my favourite heroes from Tollywood.

In South they give these names "megastar for chiranjeevi, Superstar for krishna and Rajnikanth, stylish star for Allu Arjun, power star for Pawan Kalyan etc., 😆.. I thought in Bollywood also it is common so I was not shocked when I saw natural star given before Nani in the credits of the movie. 😆

Imagine someone calling a senior lady with that word in a corporate setting 😆

I was so scandalized, I told them I would join them for any activity only if they spoke English around me 🤡

I've seen it 😲The premise is quite similar to that Salman Khan-Sridevi movie where the kid gets the body of an adult and falls in love with an adult female. Only Mahesh Babu's film went one step further and had Amisha Patel's character get pregnant by her kid-husband.Quite scandalous by today's standards.
