Deep in your heart you must have known

I would be empty once you were gone

Was that so easy, leaving me behind?

Didn’t your heart falter? Or were you so blind?

Did you not know that you are my will to live?

Keeper of everything that my heart has to give

If you see through me oh! My beloved

You would have known the reason I breathed

Image

The heart you kept on my palms

I have never let it go

You are all I held so dear

I had nothing else to lose

I have never drifted away

Just was fighting the waves

I know now I want to live

But never without you

Walk with me hand in hand

Let me see the dreams of your heart

When I found the hope n’ life

Then I found me and you.

‘Homecoming of the Queen (and the Princess)’

Meerab decided to go back to her Murtasim. She accepted that she loves him as much as he does, and may be more. In Ep. 39 she said that she will believe in his love only when she started to love him the same way as he does. The acceptance came after putting herself, and her husband as well, through hell. She was still reluctant to accept it, but the moment she voiced it, all her emotions rushed through, breaking all the floodgates. The confession was not influenced by anything else, but just because them and their daughter. Meerab becoming independent was never in the agenda; she was always protected and raised within the cocoon of the family’s warmth. And she lived in the lap of luxury. Pre-marriage, she was protected and pampered by her father. Post-marriage, her husband took over. She has never claimed that she needed to be financially independent; make a career for herself – yes, she wanted that. And it is not like these two are mutually exclusive, there is nothing wrong being dependent on your loved ones and still wanting to have career for yourself. The ‘mother’ Meerab is more softer, and she has found life and hope through her child. Like the previous Meerab, this one does not carry a ‘my way or highway’ persona. So, she decided to finally go back to where they belonged. Saba cleverly neither mentioned about the death of her adoptive father nor about the coming wedding between MK and Haya. So, none had any influence on her decision, and finally Meerab has embraced her true feelings.

Murtasim Khan was ready to go through the ‘most-hated’ wedding of our time. When his ‘supposed’ bride entered the room, he was reliving his previous ‘forced’ marriage. And he did not even impulsively raise his eyes to look at the bride, rather he covered his eyes, he was seated slightly turning his body away from the other side (a complete contrast to how his body is slightly turned towards Meerab’s direction when they are together in most times, unless he is taking a protective stance in front of her or stays behind her), and he very slightly moved his leg away from the bride’s side as to distance himself from her. His heart is clearly not in this. So, they have still not revealed that what Murtasim is playing at or whether he is playing at all. There are many hints that indicated he is up to something, so I am going to stick to my original theory, until otherwise proven. So, by going that theory, if he has a plan, why is he going with the marriage, especially, when Meerab has no clue about it? Staying away was Meerab’s punishments for herself. However, she is yet to realize that whatever and however way she punishes herself, it being a punishment for her husband is also inevitable. She had been the stronger one in their relationship, and she still is. Murtasim on the other hand is living through a punishment that was executed for a crime that he is yet to figure out. Murtasim has realized that Meerab left with her own will. Every time she came to the haveli, she was either physically or emotionally forced to do so. He wants her to come by her own will. He told that to Anwar. he also said that they should not lose hope. What happened to his ‘intezaar’ then? His words cannot be that fickle, he still pins for her. He is a living a hollow life fulfilling what is expected to be done by him. He doesn’t sleep on their bed. He refuses to give his wife’s jewellery away (the ‘ring’, I believe, has a separate story!) Then why marriage? This is his way of punishing him, if he fails to make his wife come back to him willingly. He has been always insecure about his position in her life and Meerab has never given anything to dissipate that insecurity. He has activated his ‘self-destructive’ mode. His last hope that she will come to him by her own will, if she believes that he and his love do not have that value in her life, he is going to be succumbed himself into a lifetime of misery – of losing her, of losing his most precious desire. Murtasim had only two ‘vocal’ monologues in the whole drama, but he was given many ‘silent’ ones (my favorite type, because WA, and also YZ, are brilliant in emoting through eyes and facial expressions without dialogues/ monologues.). Last couple of episodes had a few of his ‘silent’ monologues, as well as one complete ‘mute’ mode scene (during Anwar’s confrontation). Though, I am really tempted to interpret them my way,I should probably wait until the end to see how things work out. I do believe MK will be the one who will be having the last laugh (and eventually NM at the fandom, or maybe she is already doing that!).

The moment their eyes met they started to speak. As unconventional as their marital relationship could be, their ‘eye conversations’ reflect pure domesticity. Their eyes speak volumes when they collide with each other. There are many notable ones – Ep. 12: at the breakfast table, Ep. 25: when MB enters while they were arguing about the fake pregnancy, Ep. 27: during the confrontation after the fake pregnancy, etc. However, the one in the Ep. 57 just takes the prize away – and rightfully so, they were among a room full of people gathered for a marriage and they have truckload of unresolved issues that were simmering between them for two years. She walked in slowly, taking everything around. The moment he saw her, all his features changed – the hollowness in the eyes got replaced by emotions and the body language became more defined from the slumped shoulders persona. In short, you see life returning to him! There were myriads of emotions going through their eyes. There was shock, disbelief and relief of finally seeing her, his eyes watered slightly and hers held the longing. Before their eye game, their love triumphed – soak in your love’s presence. Background music changed (of course, with Behaya’s face!), Meerab slightly tilted her head and with an infinitesimal bob of her head questioned him, his eyes held a pain and accusation, he gulped and took a single step towards her. He knew that seeing him where he was, had hurt her, he was apologetic, so he took a step forward but stopped. He wanted her to come, not the other way around. But she held herself, her lips and chin quivered slightly - the pain of seeing him with someone else, 'Did you already leave me behind?' And he remembered their conversation on ‘mohabbat and ishq’; ‘The love that is easily available, does not seem true. For true love you need to tolerate and wait’, she had said.

Was he remembering it because finally his suffering and wait has come to an end? That his 'ishq' has conquered?

Or did he fear that she would dismiss his love, because she would think/ misunderstand that he did not endure the pain and wait enough for her? For their love? The slight tremble in her cheek muscles was a giveaway that she was trying to mask the ache. Throughout their eye-conversation, the whole room had faded away and nothing, but they existed for them (WA and YZ aced the whole scene as always, it was so full of emotions, and nothing was overdone. The slight trembles, gulpings and facial movements are so infinite, you could miss those if you blink. Such brilliant performers they are! 👏).

Meerab is in black and Murtasim is in white. Black and white are the non-colors; achromatic. When taken together ‘black and white’ gives a contrasting impression without any ambiguity. Scientifically, black absorbs all wavelengths of lights and reflects nothing, whereas white reflects everything. White is usually associated with purity and cleanliness; it also represents ‘hope’ and new beginnings. Black is the color of power, strength and authority. Both colors can represent loss and sadness as well. The little monkey clinging to her mother (she is adorable!) is wearing a combination of soft pink and yellow hues – gives the vibe of comfort, warmth, softness and joy.

Meerab wore complete black in couple of occasions – she wore black when Murtasim brought her back home in Ep. 20. In that time, it was him who dragged her home, fought their battle with his mother, safeguarded her position in the house and warned his mother. He was wearing earthy brown, a dependable and a comforting color. This time though he didn’t bring her back, she walked in herself, but he stood there with the hope of her returning. She has finally gathered all her strength to return to him, but this time she is not alone and holding the most purest type of joy and love – their daughter.

Will she be able to absorb all the dirt that is going to be thrown her way and fight their battle against the evil with all the power and authority he has bestowed upon her for being his wife? Will he be able to dodge all the fingers pointing at his wife? Will he be able to clean the mess that he has created, protect her and their daughter as the way always he does and ultimately embrace the joy that he is blessed with?

P.S.

Gun, I know you mentioned that you are going to wait until things get a bit clearer, but I really miss your episode analyses. 😔

. HOME COMING OF THE QUEEN….WOW!! 👏👏🤗👍🏼

I just can’t praise you enough ,Anu ……Another piece of absolutely brilliant writing. your literary genius are a class apart. . I have been waiting for you to write something on the episode and what a marvellous piece you have penned.. Loved the way you have described inch by inch Murtasum’s body language at the time of nikah…Ufff, Ufff, Murtasum is whimpering in pain, and it tugs at your heart , tearing it in a million pieces ….every inch of his body is in immense , excruciating pain at the punishment he is about to inflict on himself…and then enters the LOVE of his life …..beautifully described by you…..he comes alive , his eyes sparkle , his heart sighs for her, longs to love and be loved by this love of his, to break down before her and let expose all the bleeding wounds that she had left behind. The pain felt by Meerab was no less, to see what she had to waved over me and I could feel it…feel it right where it hurts the most but my heart rejoiced at the soon to be threesome reunion .
What these two actors have done to their script is beyond awesome .

A very beautiful analysis blended with the masterful witchcraft of words is possible only with you Anu ji👏

I felt the same about the nuanced acting of meerasim, it definitely needs a careful observation for us to grasp the true meaning of what they are conveying us.

Rumi, I originally put the title as ‘The Homecoming, but took inspiration from your ‘black and white’ post and amended it. 😊

Home is where the heart is…

Abandonment has been the greatest fear of Meerab. When she became homeless in front of the closed door of her childhood haven, Murtasim offered the sanctuary of his home to her. As Meerab later explained to him, she let go of her hate for him and decided to marry him at that moment. Though it was his ‘home’ that was being offered, metaphorically it was ‘him’ that she accepted as her home. The acceptance came under an emotional duress. Though she might not have fully understood it, it was her husband who has become her ‘home’, not a particular place.

After the accident, when Murtasim did the mistake of dismissing her after listening to Behaya’s half-truth, Meerab was heartbroken. Even after MB throwing her out and all the Panchayat fiasco, she had faith that she would not be thrown out of her ‘home’. Her husband failed her there, but to later rectify it by dragging her back to him. After Rohail’s drama in Karachchi, when Murtasim was angrily packing his stuff, she very cutely told him that he cannot leave, because she is still here – simply because she was there as he was there vice versa; he was her ‘home’. But he again left her, this time though she did not allow him to leave her – she ran behind him, the fear of abandonment clear in her eyes, tried to justify her actions to him, and went along with him – the only time Murtasim walked ahead of her without any physical assurance of knowing that she was right behind him. After Mariyam’s rescue, Murtasim deprived Meerab of her ‘home’ again. Beaten by her betrayal of letting go of his heart’s most vulnerable plea, he left her in front of her childhood home, the same home that gave her painful memories. She didn’t go in; it was not her ‘home’ anymore. She was pining for him. He came for her, it was too early, and he was still very much under the influence of her supposed betrayal, only to be wounded further and to leave her behind heartbroken. Though she was waiting for him to come for her, when MB’s request came, her heart’s yearning to be with him triumphed and she decided to go back to him. Though Waqas clearly mentioned that it was totally up to her to decide that, she didn’t think twice before declaring her wish (though she tried to hide it with Mariyam’s request, no one in that room bought her excuse!). Whatever had happened during that ‘home’-coming night, amidst all the emotional turmoil, her husband walking away from her, catapulted her vulnerability – her eyes looked in the direction he went with so much pain.

Her decision to return to her ‘home’ with their daughter was a step taken with clarity. Her thoughts are not muddled anymore and she had the benefit of time to think through the turns of her life. Unlike in previous times, this time she has acknowledged that despite her perceived ‘zero-compatibility’, they complement each other. And that no matter how far she runs, wherever she seeks her shelter; he is her home as much as she is his. So, she walked in to claim what has always been hers – her ‘home’.
