âHomecoming of the Queen (and the Princess)â
Meerab decided to go back to her Murtasim. She accepted that she loves him as much as he does, and may be more. In Ep. 39 she said that she will believe in his love only when she started to love him the same way as he does. The acceptance came after putting herself, and her husband as well, through hell. She was still reluctant to accept it, but the moment she voiced it, all her emotions rushed through, breaking all the floodgates. The confession was not influenced by anything else, but just because them and their daughter. Meerab becoming independent was never in the agenda; she was always protected and raised within the cocoon of the familyâs warmth. And she lived in the lap of luxury. Pre-marriage, she was protected and pampered by her father. Post-marriage, her husband took over. She has never claimed that she needed to be financially independent; make a career for herself â yes, she wanted that. And it is not like these two are mutually exclusive, there is nothing wrong being dependent on your loved ones and still wanting to have career for yourself. The âmotherâ Meerab is more softer, and she has found life and hope through her child. Like the previous Meerab, this one does not carry a âmy way or highwayâ persona. So, she decided to finally go back to where they belonged. Saba cleverly neither mentioned about the death of her adoptive father nor about the coming wedding between MK and Haya. So, none had any influence on her decision, and finally Meerab has embraced her true feelings.
Murtasim Khan was ready to go through the âmost-hatedâ wedding of our time. When his âsupposedâ bride entered the room, he was reliving his previous âforcedâ marriage. And he did not even impulsively raise his eyes to look at the bride, rather he covered his eyes, he was seated slightly turning his body away from the other side (a complete contrast to how his body is slightly turned towards Meerabâs direction when they are together in most times, unless he is taking a protective stance in front of her or stays behind her), and he very slightly moved his leg away from the brideâs side as to distance himself from her. His heart is clearly not in this. So, they have still not revealed that what Murtasim is playing at or whether he is playing at all. There are many hints that indicated he is up to something, so I am going to stick to my original theory, until otherwise proven. So, by going that theory, if he has a plan, why is he going with the marriage, especially, when Meerab has no clue about it? Staying away was Meerabâs punishments for herself. However, she is yet to realize that whatever and however way she punishes herself, it being a punishment for her husband is also inevitable. She had been the stronger one in their relationship, and she still is. Murtasim on the other hand is living through a punishment that was executed for a crime that he is yet to figure out. Murtasim has realized that Meerab left with her own will. Every time she came to the haveli, she was either physically or emotionally forced to do so. He wants her to come by her own will. He told that to Anwar. he also said that they should not lose hope. What happened to his âintezaarâ then? His words cannot be that fickle, he still pins for her. He is a living a hollow life fulfilling what is expected to be done by him. He doesnât sleep on their bed. He refuses to give his wifeâs jewellery away (the âringâ, I believe, has a separate story!) Then why marriage? This is his way of punishing him, if he fails to make his wife come back to him willingly. He has been always insecure about his position in her life and Meerab has never given anything to dissipate that insecurity. He has activated his âself-destructiveâ mode. His last hope that she will come to him by her own will, if she believes that he and his love do not have that value in her life, he is going to be succumbed himself into a lifetime of misery â of losing her, of losing his most precious desire. Murtasim had only two âvocalâ monologues in the whole drama, but he was given many âsilentâ ones (my favorite type, because WA, and also YZ, are brilliant in emoting through eyes and facial expressions without dialogues/ monologues.). Last couple of episodes had a few of his âsilentâ monologues, as well as one complete âmuteâ mode scene (during Anwarâs confrontation). Though, I am really tempted to interpret them my way,I should probably wait until the end to see how things work out. I do believe MK will be the one who will be having the last laugh (and eventually NM at the fandom, or maybe she is already doing that!).

The moment their eyes met they started to speak. As unconventional as their marital relationship could be, their âeye conversationsâ reflect pure domesticity. Their eyes speak volumes when they collide with each other. There are many notable ones â Ep. 12: at the breakfast table, Ep. 25: when MB enters while they were arguing about the fake pregnancy, Ep. 27: during the confrontation after the fake pregnancy, etc. However, the one in the Ep. 57 just takes the prize away â and rightfully so, they were among a room full of people gathered for a marriage and they have truckload of unresolved issues that were simmering between them for two years. She walked in slowly, taking everything around. The moment he saw her, all his features changed â the hollowness in the eyes got replaced by emotions and the body language became more defined from the slumped shoulders persona. In short, you see life returning to him! There were myriads of emotions going through their eyes. There was shock, disbelief and relief of finally seeing her, his eyes watered slightly and hers held the longing. Before their eye game, their love triumphed â soak in your loveâs presence. Background music changed (of course, with Behayaâs face!), Meerab slightly tilted her head and with an infinitesimal bob of her head questioned him, his eyes held a pain and accusation, he gulped and took a single step towards her. He knew that seeing him where he was, had hurt her, he was apologetic, so he took a step forward but stopped. He wanted her to come, not the other way around. But she held herself, her lips and chin quivered slightly - the pain of seeing him with someone else, 'Did you already leave me behind?' And he remembered their conversation on âmohabbat and ishqâ; âThe love that is easily available, does not seem true. For true love you need to tolerate and waitâ, she had said.
Was he remembering it because finally his suffering and wait has come to an end? That his 'ishq' has conquered?
Or did he fear that she would dismiss his love, because she would think/ misunderstand that he did not endure the pain and wait enough for her? For their love? The slight tremble in her cheek muscles was a giveaway that she was trying to mask the ache. Throughout their eye-conversation, the whole room had faded away and nothing, but they existed for them (WA and YZ aced the whole scene as always, it was so full of emotions, and nothing was overdone. The slight trembles, gulpings and facial movements are so infinite, you could miss those if you blink. Such brilliant performers they are! đ).
Meerab is in black and Murtasim is in white. Black and white are the non-colors; achromatic. When taken together âblack and whiteâ gives a contrasting impression without any ambiguity. Scientifically, black absorbs all wavelengths of lights and reflects nothing, whereas white reflects everything. White is usually associated with purity and cleanliness; it also represents âhopeâ and new beginnings. Black is the color of power, strength and authority. Both colors can represent loss and sadness as well. The little monkey clinging to her mother (she is adorable!) is wearing a combination of soft pink and yellow hues â gives the vibe of comfort, warmth, softness and joy.
Meerab wore complete black in couple of occasions â she wore black when Murtasim brought her back home in Ep. 20. In that time, it was him who dragged her home, fought their battle with his mother, safeguarded her position in the house and warned his mother. He was wearing earthy brown, a dependable and a comforting color. This time though he didnât bring her back, she walked in herself, but he stood there with the hope of her returning. She has finally gathered all her strength to return to him, but this time she is not alone and holding the most purest type of joy and love â their daughter.
Will she be able to absorb all the dirt that is going to be thrown her way and fight their battle against the evil with all the power and authority he has bestowed upon her for being his wife? Will he be able to dodge all the fingers pointing at his wife? Will he be able to clean the mess that he has created, protect her and their daughter as the way always he does and ultimately embrace the joy that he is blessed with?
P.S.
Gun, I know you mentioned that you are going to wait until things get a bit clearer, but I really miss your episode analyses. đ
Rumi, I originally put the title as âThe Homecoming, but took inspiration from your âblack and whiteâ post and amended it. đ
