Shoorpanakha----------------story

During their exile to the forest, Ram, Sita and Lakshman came to Dandaka forest. The sages told them about the menace of the rakshasas. Ram assured the ascetics that he would soon get rid of all rakshasas there. Shri Ram began to live by the River Godavari, at Panchavati in a simple rustic hut.

While roaming about the forest, Shoorpanakha saw Ram, Lakshman and Sita. She was besotted by Ram. Using her Maya (magic), she magically changed to a lovely lady and proposed to Ram. He said, "I am already married and have my wife here. Perhaps you should ask Lakshman to be your mate."

She went to Lakshman who said, "I am a servant of Ram and Sita. What joy would you have from marrying me? As you will become a servant too."

Both Ram and Lakshman thus rejected her offer. She assumed her original awful form and began to scare Sita. Enraged, Lakshman cut off her ears and nose. She went weeping to Khar and Dooshan and they along with Trishala and fourteen thousand rakshasas attacked Ram. But in a short battle, Ram killed all of them with his sharp arrows. Like a wounded serpent, Shoorpanakha reached Ravan court and said, "Look what Ram, Prince of Ayodhya did when I proposed marriage to him. He also killed Khar, Dooshan and all fourteen thousand rakshasas." She persuaded him to do so by telling him about Sita exceptional beauty.

Ravan sought the help of Mareech to take Sita away to avenge his sister insult. Ram and Lakshman reached Rishyamukh Mountain in search of Sita, where they met Hanuman. The befriended Sugreev who with his vanara army helped them to attack Lanka. The entire race of Rakshasas was killed. Shoorpanakha caused this massive destruction and end of her race.

In Ravan serial also they showed, Surpanakha was in love with some person
def rakshas but was in opposite group of Ravan. when Ravan was informed all abt this
he killed her love. so she decided that "being a sister she cannot kill Ravan but will
become reason of Ravans death"
When Ramji killed Khar and 14k demons, one demon akampan somehow escaped and reached Ravan
and told him all what happened in
dandkaranya, Ravan in fury wanted to kill Ramji with brother, but akampan stopped him doing
so and informed him about Rams and laxmans bravery and guided him to somehow kidnap beautiful
wife sita, so in grieve Ram will die and all will set without effort.
Ravan agreed and wanted Marich to help in this matter but Marich when listened all plan
said I believe some of your enemy guided you all this, u never know Rams bravery, Ram
can alone win three nations without anyones help.
Then he told him story when Ramji threw him 100 yojan on disturbing vishwamitras yagya.
he also mentioned Ram was very young at that time, was sukumar (app. 16 ) and he also
added "here in exile time, once I was wandering with two demons in deer disguise, saw Ram
and in fury again tried to attack him. Ram shooted us with three arrows at once
As I was aware of his bravery , I jumped out and ran out of site but those two demons got
killed. Since then I started to perform penance and am so afraid of Ram that while here
doing tap , i can see Ram allover in trees as Kal and life is so worst that even afraid of
words start with R letter like Rath, Ratna etc...

Ravan agreed and went back. Then Surpnakha blamed Ravan in diff ways saying You r
sitting here and your demons are getting killed day by day and that too by a mere tapasvi man ,
Ram and scolded him in many ways pointing him again and again of her insult by laxman
and repeated same idea to kidnap sita.
avan hearing all this again wanted Marich to help , Marich again denied and tried alot to
convince Ravan saying Ram inspite of bharats request to rule kingdom, disagreed cos
he is here to kill all of us, he is not a mere man but god incarnated. Ram is your Kal.

bla bla bla . Ravan finally scolded Marich and said to stop nuisance, reminded him of self
bravery, lankesh , ...
being a family marich agreed to help Ravan but warned him again and again
of Rams bravery and end of Rakshas jati.

But how come Ravan follow Marich word when all was set by Lord.

in some other version it is said that Shoorpanakha decided to take revenge from ram laxman for killing rakshas so in some version Shoorpanakha was shown in uttar khand also
