Damn... I just happened to re-watch Anjaam and Lajja this weekend, and here's a topic on Madhuri❤️
I was mesmerized by Madhuri's performances in both these films.
GenZ has no idea about Madhuri's stardom, and the effect she had on people at her peak.
Madhuri was not just a superstar, but she was also a huge cultural icon in the 90s.⭐️
Her solo numbers were huge hits and no other actress could match upto her dancing. She was Sridevi biggest competition in early 90s, and being a better dancer was one of the main reasons that she leapfrogged Sri, apart from being a bit younger.
Madhuri inspired an entire generation of girls to learn dance and act, and some of them went on to become huge actresses. Vidya Balan has repeatedly said in her interview that it was Madhuri's dance in "Ek Do Teen" that incited the "keeda" of acting in her.
"Main Madhuri Dixit Banna chahti hun" practically happened to half of the country.⭐️
There were TV serials and films with Madhuri's name in their title. She was considered #1 even if some of her films failed at the Box Office. She also became the muse of M. F. Husain.👏
And all of this happend without any Social Media or hyperactive PR. Comparing Madhuri and Alia's fabricated stardom is laughable. 😆
Madhuri from the 90s would've eaten alive Alia in 2023, in terms of screen presence alone. And whether it's dialogue delivery, expressions, aura, dancing skills .... Madhuri is miles ahead of Alia and many others from her time.
The only thing that hasn't worked for Madhuri is her "comebacks" in films. But I applaud her for trying to do different and women-centric roles. She has also exposed herself way too much by judging too many reality TV shows.🤔
AND I agree with people who say that Deepika in 2010s is the last person who came close to achieve organic stardom like Madhuri.
Sadly, Deepika's image got tainted and polarized right from the start of 2020s after her JNU visit.🤔
And now there's just no room for anyone to achieve organic stardom like it used to be.
