Why are Bollywood movies not doing so well as before especially after covid.

Few reasons could be -

Huge budgets : A bit of blame for some of these films failing to earn profit lies in their sky-high budget, most of which is mostly spent on an actor's fees, rather than increasing the production value. The fees of actors have become increased a lot.

Public boycott: Due to nepotism, religious sentiments etc.

High ticket rates in Multiplex :

Boost in the popularity of regional films

Changing Audience Trends: Thanks to OTT and exposure to Quality Films - Todays Audiences have a different taste.

And most of the films release in OTT in few months of the theatrical release.

Talent is missing now : There is shortage of good writers, directors and actors.

Good Music: Lack of good music also in some cases.

Crap content, rise of demand for south Indian movies, obnoxious behaviour of actors, increasing accessibilty of actors diluting their so called star power, mediocre to bad performances by new actors, availability of great content from every corner of world, easy and pocket friendly access to content online, increased price of tickets.. These are some if the reasons I can think of causing decline.

Everything you mention is responsible, I think.

In addition, it takes time, needs patience and change of thinking...which not all production houses do e.g. T-Series (Bushan & Krishan Kumar) has become a production house I distrust (their engagement and honest work).

Thanks for your reply.

Yes true, there will be a time when OTT stars maybe be paid better than now if their shows are more watched than the movies. Producers will want to invest more money on OTT shows i feel

.

Thank you for your reply.

Yes true once upon a time Yashraj used to give so many hits. Now there are hardly any.

Less time is invested in story telling.

Music is also not so hummable in most movies.

High-ticket prices in multiplexes, the reduction of single screens and social media campaigns against the film industry haven's helped either. So is everything gloomy/ slowing down for Bollywood.

Well, not "everything" is gloomy, but it is a long process.

We already have seen that there is hope and that well made movies with good performances and positive WOM get the audience.

But you're right, it was only when Pathaan released that many single screen theatres reopened...there aren't many movies that interest multiplex audience and single screen audience likewise.

I guess people's taste has changed over the years. Plus there's so many new things and hobbies now for entertainment. People didn't have much of a choice before so watched every movie for timepass. Plus, there were less movies. Now there are so many new movies releasing every week. Also nobody carees about the new celebrities like they did for the old ones, that's also due to over exposure and social media. There is nothing exciting and thrilling about them anymore. All stars look the same, they have no x factor in them.

Also movies are easily available to watch online for free or on OTT platforms, so nobody bothers to pay for cinema ticket anymore unless it's a really big movie.

I think all of the above honestly. So far this year, I've enjoyed OTT content more than theatrical releases, with the exception of Pathaan. I'll be honest, there were a couple of movies I wanted to watch in theatres just because I personally love going to the movie theatre, but by the time I was able to, they were already available online, so why waste my money ya' know?
