Why no animal based films in BW?

Hollywood has films like Jaws, Alligator, Piranha, Anaconda, Godzilla, Jurassic Park, Black Water etc., based on animals and monsters, that are top thrillers.

They also have stuff like Lassie featuring an adorable dog.

Why Indian cinema hardly makes films based on animals?

I only remember Shaan, Khoon Bhari maang, Ganga Jumna Saraswati, and a B grade film about friends eaten by a shark, which had animals shown as adversaries or main challenge.

Or maybe MPK, Coolie, Teri Meherbaniyan, Ajooba, HAHK where dolphin, pigeon, dogs have some role to play. Or Haathi mere saathi in past.

Is it because it is hard to train animals or shoot animals or get permission to make films with animals? Or because of lack of technology to create some animal with CGI?

Or it is Indian audience that takes no interest in films with animals as central theme?

Animals, birds, fish etc have totally disappeared from Indian films in recent years. Whereas globally we have really engaging content showing animals as nice or the main threat/villain.

Yeah I forgot.

Even Dil ko dhadakne do had a dog as witness or narrator, dubbed by Aamir.

But such films are rare.

That Akki film did not do that well, didn't it?

Akki does so many films that it is hard to keep track of what all work he has done.

There were number of animal-related / centric films in the older era..

Kaala Parvat

Haathi Mere Saathi

Maa

Safed Haathi

Dost

I am pretty sure there are more, but these are the only ones I have seen.

I think they don't make them because of a few reasons -

- you have to train the animal extensively

- I don't know about India but in HW there is a very strict union for using animals. They only work limited hours and they have to be treated with utmost care.

- Budgetary issues? Even B-grade films cost crores to make.. I would think hiring animals are expensive.

- Actors these days are insecure. They know people will give the animal more importance than them.
