I freaking loved Family No. 1, Hum Paanch, Baat Ban Jaye, Idhar Udhar, Ghar Jamai, Office Office, Hasna Mat and Just Mohabbat! These shows were just so so much fun. Highly highly recommend them too 😊

I've heard a lot about Flop Show, Ulta Pulta but never got the chance to watch them..

Man ITV was so so good back in the day!

How did we go from such progressive and witty shows to the crap today? Seriously Ekta Kapoor single-handedly ruined ITV.

It's just a problem of too many..

So many channels mushroomed in late 90s.

They experimented with all genres initially..comedy, horror, game shows, family.

And it worked due to to novelty factor. Then it's all turned into churning machine repeating the same formulas. Much like what is happening with OTT now

OOHHH will check it out. I love that channel.. so glad they are uploading these old Doordarshan shows.

I'm currently watching this doordarshan serial called Aarohan, it's pretty good. Have you seen it?

count me in for never liking khichdi and Aarohan is an awesome series, don’t know how many times I have watched it. Since Aarohan days, R. Madhavan is my favorite 😍

I agree with every word.

I was especially in love with Family no.1 as a kid and related a lot to the kids in that show as they reminded me of my cousins, siblings.

Also there was another show called Happy Go Lucky on Star One with two teenaged boys and it was really fun.

I am shocked how much Indian TV has been annihilated post 2006.

No variety, no content. Just same old cheap saas bahu serials or bakwas love stories or lusting after neighbour's wife shown as comedy.

Bhabhiji is a cheap show. Shriman Shrimati had similar theme but was never as vulgar as Bhabhiji.

Yes Boss on SAB TV was also a fun show though with a cheap theme of boss lusting after married employee.

Asif Shaikh is PhD in playing characters that lust after married women.

Ekta Kapoor hi nahi, even success of Balika Vadhu ruined Indian TV and they began to show even kids as husband or wife in name of showing period dramas or social issues.

No comedy, no suspense, no thrillers, no quizzes, no variety of content anymore as we had earlier till early 2000s

Family No.1 brought so much joy to everyone.. I remember my parents and I fighting over which kid / parent we supported HAHA.. they were all just so adorable, mischievous yet innocent.

Yeah it's not just about lack of variety, there is no script. You don't need to be a genius to write better than what writers are doing for ITV. Heck I won't even call them writers.

I've never seen Bhabhiji and won't bother. Comedy has become so crass and cheap now.

Have you seen Gulaal? Probably the one and only ITV show that tackled a young 10 year old boy marrying a much older woman so sensitively that it remains one of my most fav shows post 2000. Fact is any concept if portrayed with sensitivity can be worth watching.. but ITV just lacks that. They put in 0% effort and thought into a script. I feel like they're all competing to win the sport of 'who can come up with the most absurd and illogical twist'.

Even the more dramatic serials of the 90s like Heena are miles ahead of what is being dished out today. Same goes for Bollywood. Cinema between the 40s - 70s was gold, though of course there were also movies that were regressive. Then Amitabh came along with his action image starting the whole mirch masala blockbuster trend.. still it was fairly watchable till say 2010 and then I don't know what happened.

SIGH. I am just living off older shows on YouTube and some stuff from the West.

I can't even imagine how much further content will downgrade in years to come..
