Lol, I came to rant to, was searching for the spoilers thread, found this😆
This movie is🤌
The good parts:
The integration of wolf in the world: The folklores and stories around wolves are abundant, from telling to showing, they are all there. The story about wolves and 7 lambs, the wolf crying boy, vampires and werewolves, it's all there. And it doesn't feel forced, if you know the reference, tubelight jalti hai.
The use of real world: Phone Bhoot had this in abundance, this one takes it a little notch down. From mentions of corona to the memes, it's there, again, if you know, yaad aata hai, else it's just in the passing, not forced.
The message delivering: We are in the situation (in the movie) where people believe in balance of nature and men, but through sheer plot convinience, people are ready to break this balance. But those who aren't, aren't that preachy, we know where they are coming from. When a character tries to drill this in Bhaskar's head, he snaps and reminds them ki in the end, paisa wins, its all good on the paper, reality is different. The other message about racism is in an outburst and you kind of get it where the character is coming from. It should have been there or no, I personally think they could have skipped it, but they turn that into a bonding moment, so Ig it fits in.
Abhishek Banerjee and Deepak Dobiryal: These two are showstealers. They outshined everyone in the movie. P.s, JD is such a good friend and cousin🥹
The universe: I AM FREAKING OUT!!!! After Farzi brought in Chellam Sir (and Srikant in promotion videos) I knew we needed more cinematic universes. IDC for YRF spy universe and Police-verse, but when I read that mid credit scene mein Stree characters come, I was so excited. Phone Bhoot too did it with the Excel universe, but it was in passing. This one is legit going to be connected through JD where he has not only a supernatural entity as his friend, but as his boss too. It's going to be so cool! I love lore (reason why m a HP and MCU fan) and this just fits into my liking for supernatural too.
Music: I just loved Apna Bana le, but the album is actually decent and well integrated in the scene, and with the wolf theme too. Except Thumkeshwari, all the songs are decent enough with cool lyrics.
The bad:
VFX in some place: The Bhediyas aren't consistent. In the first reveal scene, his snout looked a little smaller (and I thought it was a conscious decision to show ki he isn't really a wolf, but the Virus had a proper snout and so did Bhaskar in later scene) also, not a fan a the VFX in apna bana le sequence.
Kriti: She is...just there, like even when Bhaskar was flirting with her, she was meh! I wish there was someone like Yami instead.
Spoilers:
Meri actually tubelight jali nahi. When I first came to know that it's a Stree-verse, I got confused ki dono movies mein Abhishek hai, how are they gonna figure out it. Even his nickname is different in both movies, beech mein kahin tubelight jali meri, lol!
I also think that the Ojha is the same man who was with Anika and her father in the cave (I may be wrong, but it would be supercool if she was just injured, not killed and he used his powers to give her the lycanthropic powers)
Anika's character reveal felt super thanda coz she was behaving all suspicious. Like we knew she is injecting him with the virus, so the end reveal didn't make much difference anyway. It was even revealed in character posters that she might have injected him.
Also, the fact that Anika is a vet makes so much sense in the end.
In six months, did they not manage to train the wolf inside Bhaskar? He isn't a complete wolf, he has his human side alive (he killed the senior engineer, which means the jungle part recieved info from the human part of his brain)
The hero vs the villian
I loved the realization Bhaskar had in the jungle, that he is the bad guy in the story. Because, in HP, especially, Remus Lupin sees Lycanthropy as a curse (in his case, it is) like Bhaskar, but Anika sees it as a boon. It's always a superhero thing. The hero thinks the power is a curse after losing someone close to them while the villian insists that it isn't. Here, Anika is the hero of the story and she uses her powers for her people, her jungle.
The Stree-verse
I know Thumkeshwari isnt canon since Anika dies, but I was actually hoping that somehow Shraddha's stree ended up in the Bhediya area, this connecting them further.
Did Vicky and Bittu figure out that Shraddha has the powers of Stree. Because the movie ended with Stree's statue and yet they were searching for him, thinking she still controls Jana (which, how? She didn't have her powers, the og Stree was the one who controlled him. Unless it was actually Shraddha who had kidnapped him and stuff)
Also, the friendship callback was a nice touch😅
I am sorry, after a long time I loved a BW movie and it was such a good watch!
