He was on his way, in cab, when he received a call...

1st theory: Maaya called him and told him Choti Anu was at her gun point. He takes 1 more step towards Anupamaa, Choti Anu takes a no return ticket. If both father-daughter duo ever try to patch up with Anupamaa, Choti Anu's life will get an expiry date. This might also explain why Choti Anu is being all Maaya loving n devoting daughter as she might have threatened her to send off Anuj to heavens. Agar Anuj aur choti Anu uski nahin banee, toh kisi ka nahin banney denge. now,maaya, She's scared that Anuj will reveal the deal she made.

2nd theory: after few hours, maaya called Anuj, in panicky mode, stating that Choti Anu's biological father had reached them and they are in dire mortal danger.

Anuj makes u turn to confront the bio dad. N while the bio dad threatened to snatch n fight for his daughter n woman, Anuj goes in defensive mode, and claimed that as long as he's alive, he'll be a shield for Maaya n Choti Anu against the bio dad.

The bio dad challenges Anuj that the moment he leaves these 2 alone, durghatna ghateygi. He'll keep a watch on their every move.

Maaya told him that they NEED to act n behave convincingly as a couple bkoz choti Anu's life will be ruined if the bio dad gets her custody. Hence, the majboori. 🤪

All this, of course, is the evil planning of BVM. Who knows the bio dad is actually THE bio dad or not? He's just getting paid to act.
