Congo toppers🥳 I would have scored better if I kept Gill as POTM and highest runs but I thought every time he can't play well😆 so changed last minute to Saha.

nevertheless got 35

Summary of today's match.

In the Qualifier 2 match of IPL 2023 between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans triumphed with a significant 62-run win, earning their spot in the final for the second consecutive time. This victory was largely due to the stellar performances of Shubman Gill and Mohit Sharma.

Batting first, Gujarat Titans were powered to a dominant total by a fantastic innings from Shubman Gill. Gill scored a sensational 60-ball 129, including 7 fours and 10 sixes. His remarkable form in the season continued as he scored his third century in the last four innings, and overall in the season, he has amassed 851 runs, only the fourth player in IPL history to score more than 800 runs in a season after Virat Kohli, Jos Buttler, and David Warner.

In response to Gujarat Titan's imposing score of 233/3, Mumbai Indians faced a string of injuries that forced a reshuffling of their batting lineup. Ishan Kishan was substituted after a collision with Chris Jordan, Rohit Sharma sustained a blow to his hand while fielding, and Cameron Green had to briefly retire hurt after being hit on his left forearm by Hardik Pandya. Despite these setbacks, Suryakumar Yadav (61) and Tilak Varma (43) provided some resistance.

The turning point in the match came when Mohit Sharma was introduced into the attack in the 15th over. He claimed 5 wickets for just 10 runs, causing a collapse in the Mumbai Indians' batting order. They went from 149/4 in 14 overs to being all out for 171 in 18.2 overs.

Mohammad Shami also contributed to the early troubles for Mumbai, dismissing makeshift opener Nehal Wadhera and Rohit Sharma. Unfortunately, I was unable to find specific details about Rohit Sharma's dismissal in this match.

Overall, it was an exceptional performance by the Gujarat Titans, with both their batting and bowling units performing at their peak to secure the win and a place in the final.

Hardik Pandya | GT captain: I think a lot of hard work goes behind the guys doing well. They keep practising, that reflects. I think the clarity and confidence he is carrying is amazing. (On Shubman) Today's innings was one of the finest, he never looked rushed. It felt like someone was throwing balls and he was hitting. He will be a superstar in international and franchise cricket. I do have conversations with him, I try that people feed off my energy. Everyone takes responsibility for themselves. (On Rashid) I think we've spoken enough about him. He's been the man I can rely on when the team is in a tough situation. We have to play good cricket, put in our 100%. Knockouts could go either way, but very excited for the final.

Shubman Gill | Player of the Match: For me, it is playing ball to ball, over to over. The over where I hit three sixes gave me the momentum to go big. That's when I realised it could be my day. It was a good wicket to bat on as well. Not a conscious decision, you keep inventing as a batter but for me the belief is more important. I am coming off a good international season as well. Had a good season last time as well. When I start well, I feel confident I can score well. From the last WI tour, I think I have shifted a gear, I got injured before the last IPL but I have been working on my game. I have worked on a few areas and made technical changes ahead of the NZ series after the T20I World Cup. Expectations are something that follow you outside the ropes, but once you step on the field it is all about trying how to contribute for the team. I think this was probably my best innings so far in the IPL.

So this Mumbai Indians bowling unit finally hits their expiry date. They were being carried for the bulk of the season thanks to that explosive batting line-up, but today was a bridge too far. Still, finishing 3rd despite so many injury concerns for MI is commendable. They can exit the IPL with their heads held high.

But today’s game was all about the Prince of Indian cricket, Shubman Gill. A prince that is making some very long strides towards cricket immortality. A prince who’s kingdom and reign could be vast and stretch a long, long period of time if he can continue to match these levels. A prince who bows ever so benevolently in celebration every time he scores a century. The kind of form he has hit now, don't be surprised if there's another century in the final when Gujarat take on Chennai.
