Kashmiris love movies and songs. They watch secretly even if not openly. Not all Kashmiris are separatists.

We have several students from Kashmir study in unis across India and get along well with us.

Kashmir traders sell saffron, woollen clothes, apples etc across India every winter and are polite.

My mami is from J&K and my mama would go to her maayka every year with her for vacation and raved about hospitality of people and beauty of that place.

Locals there want peace and hate how image of that place and people is tarnished so much. They are not as hateful or rabid as section of media and internet projects them to be. Their youth wants better opportunities and chance to study or play or have fun. Not everyone is interested in militancy or politics.

That is very true..I follow some YouTubers from Kashmir and they are just normal, chill people like the rest of us….I quite dislike those people who indulge in portraying this grim picture of Kashmir..Where everyday somebody is dying or stone pelting and wants ‘Azadi’ ..I remember visiting it in 2002 and things were quite alright even though that was some years after Kargil..most people there were sweet and innocent..!

They are welcoming and always ask to return again to visit and want us to let others know they and their place are not as bad as shown in media.

I knew an old houseboat owner who used to curse Geelani under his breath and blamed those leaders for targeting youth and told how separatist leaders send own kids abroad and live lavish lifestyle but radicalise kids of ordinary people in Kashmir and use them in their hateful agenda and how as parents they struggle to keep kids away from bad company and such propaganda which is also freely available online.

Kashmiris had started girls band, football teams, made it in UPSC etc too but separatists threatened them and forced them to shut it or shun or boycott kids who made ir in competitive exams, boards, entrance exams or in TV or film industry.

Zaira Wasim also got threats from militants for meeting Mehbooba Mufti and accepting award from govt. She was called traitor. And forced to quit industry and hide self in burqa. Whatever she does now, is result of militants threatening her and her family and putting posters against her and warning girls of Kashmir to not be like her and threatening parents to not allow girls to be like her.

The militants had also threatened Dr Shah Faesal who was first Kashmiri to secure AIR 1 in UPSC. And called him traitor.

But I am glad GOI keeps engaging Kashmiris, sends rest of Indians there to bond and interact with Kashmiris and bust militant propaganda of showing Indians as enemies.

Bring on more students, tourists, entertainers, artistes, businessmen interacting with each other. Fun and good business will eventually make people weary of violent propaganda.

oh no ..I had no idea about all of this..I thought Zaira quit out of her own will..wow this is so 🤬 and exactly the point..the separatists use ordinary Kashmiris as a pawn...and the politicians - Omar Abdullah is in UK I think..and Mehbooba Mufti compared Kashmir to some prison for holding the summit there..because of additional security deployed there..to keep delegates and civilians safe😳 there are many who just want to keep that State in permanent turmoil and torture for their personal gains..separatists and the politicians from India and Pakistan just exploited and destroyed that State’s potential 🤬 I think Kiara-Kartik’s movie Satyaprem ki katha was shot in Kashmir for some portions…also idk but I think some scenes from Rockstar too? Not sure if it’s Himachal though in the movie..As for businesses - original Pashminas from Kashmir are world famous and also the woollen wear can be exported from there..lots of potential and ofcourse a thriving tourism sector would help..from infrastructure perspective because of the unique ecology it has ..I hope Government keeps that in mind too.

Dear Medha, thanks a lot for all the twitter posts and pics you posted ❤️

I only know Kashmir through movies and that it got named "the Indian Switzerland"...I think, it's a great opportunity to promote it on a touristic level... 😊

red: She was forced to present it like her own will...

bold: Absolutely...just imagine the hardship and the atrocities the general population of K&J had to face throughout the years!!! (at and after partition times) It can make cry for hours...

green: Money is the reason why the law got changed...Kashmir can bring biiiig money...I welcome that as it could change the infrastructure and diminish the ground for extremists. (the beauty of Kashmir and its potential of a wealthy state is the main reason for all the turmoil and torture...that's why Pakistan supports extremism there and India annected it...Kashmir could very well have sustained as an independent state).

Independent State - there are reasons why that would not work - because China loves to push the smaller nations around it into debt trap..and then whatever they are building through CPEC etc..also more problems for Kashmir as well - with three hostile neighbours around if it becomes independent - from Pakistan, India and China..everyone will continue to fight, torture the J&K folks and destroy it anyway..better to stay in one country..instead atleast now there will be development of some industries in J&K..from what I hear, POK folks also want to be a part of IOK..because Pakistan is doomed right now and almost on the verge of a civil war..if I had the money, and most importantly security, I would have loved to own a house there..just eat apples, strawberries whole day, sip the Kahwa and look at the gorgeous mountains😆

You're right about the political part...it's only in a rather ideal world, that Kashmir could have strived as an independent country... it's really saddening...
