Beautifully penned and thank you for sharing. We got a glimpse of their past, the differences and how they have made their marriage work at least for few years.

After reading this remembered how true the phrase is " that behind every person success is someone" ! Silent support and making your home life peaceful goes a long way.

Reading about Anamika and Arnav..why she walked away from him...did not make me feel sad.

I was surprised that given all that she said to him,her beliefs..he actually went back begging to her. The girl would walk away next time they faced some hardship. He should have been glad that they broke up.

Then realized that he did always feel trapped by his familial responsibilities and all that he had to give up because of it. His comment to Akash that he likes it here, his life in the fake film world. The present, the divorce makes sense then.

Khushi list of happiness in the marriage is to be simply being treated like a individual ! Sad but a reality in many a South Asian household. Payal comment then that Khushi expectation from Arnav was so low makes perfect sense.

I had expected Payal not to mince words with Arnav. Akash is right though that basic human decency requires Arnav to tell Khushi about his involvement with Lavanya.

Arnav looks down the film industry shallow lifestyle but will remain part of it to earn more money, power. Only way for his continued success I guess.

He seems also to be selective in laying all blame to evil Manali and almost giving a clean chit to a grown up Lavanya. He thinks she is trapped like he was ?

I was going to write more about Khushi's education needs,Arnav earning a living and hence delaying parenthood. Their few years of marital harmony. Or talk about Lavanya and her obsession's of a married man. Something on purpose I have skipped till now.

But then there is the title once bitten and thrice shy...which I am reading as it is about Lavanya and Arnav's story. In all fairness I cannot write about the two..as my personal beliefs will take over.

Ps. Anjali his sister why can he not speak to her? She is away ?

. Thank you for the kind words. Arnav and Anamika needed to be addressed. It stems from a personal belief of mine that you’re most vulnerable, most naive and most involved in your first serious relationship. Which is also the case with both Arnav and Anamika. Arnav was highly dependent on her emotionally so he wasn’t able to digest the sudden and abrupt end to a long relationship until it hit his self respect when she didn’t show up. For Anamika the curse of first serious relationship came back long after her anger subsided. When she realized that even with all the troubles with Arnav, she wanted to be with him after all, after all this time. And I do genuinely think that couples like this get together once more, only because they couldn’t handle their first split. If they’re somehow able to make it work, that’s great. But most of the time their second break up is permanent. In this case however, Arnav had went ahead with marriage and there’s no scope left (gladly, because I do believe they would have broken up again anyway). Once bitten, thrice shy does indeed refer to Arnav’s third brush with a relationship when Lavanya proposed it. But more on that later…Coming to Khushi, the fact that she hails from a village had played a huge part in the story till now and will continue to do so. She may be trying to adjust to the city life and changing herself slowly, but her beliefs had been instilled in her since a long time. Even if we as readers understand that Khushi’s expectations and beliefs are misplaced in the modern world, the character itself is unaware of these things. This Khushi honestly could be a feminist’s nightmare. But as you correctly pointed out, it’s a reality in South Asian homes.

I agree with you regarding our state in our first serious relationship. You highlighting that he was depended on her emotionally..makes it easier to understand his post breakup behavior.

Khushi. I do agree our home environment and our upbringing plays a big role in our beliefs.

I have met folks who have grown up in a big city and have world exposure (oh yes educated too) and still have archaic views of what women role is in a relationship. Applies to both genders BTW.

To me when Arnav realizes that she is not a morning person and "let's " her sleep in does not make him exceptional just a normal human being. To many he may be caring soul.😊

It's still mind bogling for me to understand why Arnav feels he tried enough with Khushi! Maybe I am too traditional in my thoughts... But she became his anchor when he needed the most, his success relies in tramendous understanding, adjustments and love from Khushi's side too.. Was it so easy for him to ignore her needs to have a child or his time?? Maybe I am misreading something but Arnav never realized Khushi was home for him and not any of those physical properties he is trying to attach himself with!

Also he sounded upset that she was ok with his choices in divorce including no counseling.. He expected her not to let go easily but he did and in fact cheated in the name people grow out of love! Something I am unable to digest...

Again what a mature writing from your end Arpita, I am glued and intrigued!

Its always heartwarming to read about their initial married life. How they both acknowledged each other's positive traits.

Khushi being an innocent girl with little exposure was simply happy because her husband was helping a bit. He thought of her comfort, be it eating dinner on time or getting intimate with her. And that made Khushi fall in love with Arnav.

Arnav started loving her because she stood with him through thick and thin. Her cheerful personality and understanding healed his broken heart.

But as Arnav got successful, and interacted with fake people in glamour world, he was okay with it as it was his job. He was where he wanted to be. Khushi on the other hand couldn't tolerate such people as Arnav said she even stopped attending such parties after a while.

So they grew apart because he got more busy with work and their world wasn't same anymore.

Hence he decided to part ways. As he explained it to Payal that he didn't want Khushi to be in an unhappy marriage. He accused Anamika for not supporting him and he fell in love with Khushi for the same reason. So just because their world collided, he distanced himself from his wife and alone decided to separate. I didn't like this about him.

Even though he thought he would move on, he didn't count on the domesticity he was so used to. Khushi's presence in every part of the house, her involvement that gave their life a normalcy. He is missing it now. There is nothing which welcomes him now in their home.

Thank you Arpita for the long and beautifully written chapter !

Beautiful chapter and thank you for such a long chapter.

Life is not a bed of roses and life can not survive on just attractions and romance alone. It needs maintenance. No one should take it for granted nor just one person put too much into the relationship. We need to balance between selflessness and selfishness.

Arnav and his family suffered because of lack of funds. His first girl friend after making him open his heart to her, mocked him for the same reason. Not only that, she even cursed him that Khushi will leave him one day because of lack of money.

Now he is hell bent on earning so much money so that no one in his family ever have to suffer because there is not enough money to spend. That could be the reason why he is fretting, when Khushi refused to take alimony from him.

Once he started earning, it became an addiction. We all know what addiction can do to oneself.

Arnav forgot that though money is important, it is not everything. In pursuit of money he lost many important things in life. Is it too late? time will tell.

When Arnav returned home after encountering Anamika, Khushi figured that something has happened when he was out. After their little kissing session, when she asked him to tell her what happened, I just thought Arnav might snap at her and accuse her for luring him into a kiss only to get the reason out of him. If we analyse those few minutes in their life, many things could have gone wrong.

Education is important and financial independence is important.

All I wish for Khushi is to be financially independent and be in a position to help others and get what she wants.

By the way Akash and Payal named their daughter Leher from Akash's childhood or was she really a figment of his imagination?

Prakash brothers made an entry into the story..

Khushi already told Arnav about Shyam. Is Shyam going to reappear or gone for good?

Where is Anjali? Is she happy?

So many questions yet again. But, will wait for the answers.

PS: I posted the top two line by mistake while dealing with a different post.😊

Cheers..

Thank you so much for liking the chapter. Oh yes, Arnav maybe thinking he is doing the right thing but its no justification for the choices he made. He is being a jerk in the most simple terms.

Also I do notice some questions in here. rest assured they all will be answered soon :)

Thank you! Yeah your guess is right, the mini differences that grew over time due to the very life that they built together has played a huge role in where we stand today in the story. Also, I am glad you drew the parallel between what Anamika did to Arnav and what he ultimately did to Khushi. He had grossly underestimated the role Khushi and a domestic stability had played in his life later on when initially it was those same things that made him fall in love with her in the first place.
