I loved it to the core. It's beautifully made. This book was the first fiction I ever read and initiated imaginations in me.

For me the apt choice is Kaarthi as Vanthiathevan ( someone called him here as Bandhar guy)..there won't be any girl/ women/ man in Tamilnadu who didn't fell in love with Vanthiathevan when they read the book and there is no one in tamilnadu who dislikes Kaarthi. I have heard people disliking Surya but definitely not karthi.

This story is written originally from Vanthiathevan 's point of view..this story hero is Vanthiathevan. Not anyone else.He will narrate the story and his journey introduce us all the characters. And Vanthiathevan was my first teenage crush.I imagined many actors, but karthi is just lovely.

I liked everyone..but I didn't like how Athiya karikalan was interacting with Nandhini in the climax..whoever knows whose the real Athithya karikalan won't prefer Kalki version of him..he was the greatest ruler of chozhas and he was never a love sick puppy.. but still it's a fiction and I had to let it go and did the same now.

I should say Aishwarya had aged gracefully and I wanted her to do many such aged rules.

But OMG Vikram is ☺️❤️....of everyone I loved Vikram .It's Vikram & ARR s show..

I have seen Surya from his debut film Nerukku Ner which was again Mani Ratnam production and written by him while direction was by Vasanth. Since then he has come a ling way. Yes, Surya is also from Mani Ratnam School and the movie had Vijay acting with him.
As I have not lived in India for the past 20+ years not sure about fanwars between Ajith, Vijay and Surya fanclubs and I don’t watch their movies except probably some of Surya’s movies.
That said, I like Karthi’s movies and his chouces much better than Surya or any if the top heros. Karthi had dine all genres. He doesn’t care for Stardom or superstar status, but cares only for a good story and his character. Who will start their career with a movie like Paruthiveeran a National award winning movie. If you see Karthi’s choice of movies or characters is never repeated. His filmography is stellar, much much better than even Surya’s. He us the perfect choice for Vandhiyadevan, no one could have done such a great job. Vandhiyadevan is one character who could show all emotions/traits in the book as well as in the movie - Anger, loyalty, love, comedy(laughter), intelligence, quick thinking, courage, strength and the guy is constantly moving. Karthi indeed performed it to the T. Vandhiyadevan life itself can be a spinoff movie ofcourse with Kundavai in it,

Those who read the book, we all know its a historical fiction and certain characters were written for the book and did not exist back in 950 AD - Nandini, Senthan Amudhan, Poonguzhali, Azhwarkidayan Nambi, Manimegalai are all fictional characters added to the story. The real Cholas who existed back then were Aditha Karikalan, Kundavai, Arunmozhi Varman, their father Sundara Chozhan, father’s cousin Uthama Chozhan, Vandhiyadevan, Vanathi, Patribendra Pallavan, Pandya rebels.

Anyway don’t have any complaints about the movie, I don’t nitpick but if I don’t like something after watching the trailer itself, will never watch the movie, nor go around badmouthing it. But with PS I was interested to see what they could keep and what they let go off from the book.

I don’t know what bad rap Aishwarya is getting in BW as I don’t follow BW much these days but she is revered, praised, appreciated, well respected in South Cinemas especially in Tamil movie world. She has done 5 movies with MR (if you count PS 1 &2 as two separate movies) and 1 movie with Rajiv Menon and 1 movie with Shankar, out of which 6 are direct tamil movies ( Iruvar, Jeans, Kandukondain Kandukondain, Raavanan, PS 1&2) while 1 is a dubbed movie (Guru).

More than others, Aishwarya is constantly judged even now for what she achieved at a young age, her Miss World title. The only way for her to keep going forward is by doing good work and let it speak about her capabilities.

From what I saw of her in Iruvar in 1997 and now in PS, she has come a long way.

Jeans was a time pass movie, came right when I was doing my under graduation, went to the movies with my friends and was mesmerized by Ash’s beauty. I didn’t mind the movie at all. It had great songs, well pictured by Shankar in beautiful locations all over the world. That was her second move in Tamil and she was already very popular and became huge after Jeans. People in interior parts of Tamil Nadu who didn’t know Ash before like her winning Miss World, all knew her after Jeans.

Iruvar introduced her to South Cinema, mostly watched by niche audience as MR movies are mostly made that way except Nayagan and Thalapathi, which were watched by all, but Jeans took her to masses

Saw it

Firstly it’s wayy better than ps1 which frankly put me to sleep …this atleast had spots which kept me engaged ..although they are just spots…it’s still very incoherent but more coherent than the first one

The way it started was bang on…loved the teenage story of nandini and adita and how it was captured …

But it dosent quite retain that same momentum …there are parts where I feel like “Omg it’s gonna get better” but it dosent

Like when the siblings meet, or when the whole mute queen story is revealed…whenever vikram was on screen I was interested …ash and vikram track is good and well done..,ash’s relegation abt her father was also nice …for a second there I wanted to throw up at the thought of investing in a love story when there was a slight hint that aditya and nandini have the same father and are step siblings…

…it feels like the film does hold ur attention there but then it fizzes out coz it switches to something completely diff the next second , instead of a proper build up in the screenplay …and far far too many characters and scenes that don’t serve a purpose …like why should I even care abt vaanathi (sobitas role).,.atleast the boat girl saved and helped arunmozhi and vandiya..

and Trisha’s role…like what? That’s it? You have such a gorgeous woman with great presence and u make her stand on the side and give reaction shots ?? where was the display of sharp intellect or keen political sense or whatever that kundavai was meant to have?

All in all, the film belongs to vikram and ash…and their story …the rest just don’t interest u enough to care (except karthi) ..

And the songs, dude they didn’t even have proper song picturizstions for aga naga, veera raja veera …like whattttt whyyy? Why ruin such nice songs …use them …instead we got a whole ass picturization of those mediocre songs in ps1…uggh

The less said abt the action scenes the better …there is literally no finesse there

Fin.

PS1 was the introduction of all characters and every one has screen space, yes it could be confusing as so many characters.

PS2 is mainly with Vikram and Ash and Karthi the rest hardly have meat to work on especially Trisha who was so good but did not get much to do. Ravi and the rest of the cast were good but not as much as PS1. Ash was good but was more of lovelorn and angst, the darker and ruthless part of Nandini could have been done more.

The best was Vikram he was just superb just mind blowing.

Just came back... I liked it as much as the first one. I personally feel that the characters were better fleshed out in this one as compared to previous

For example, Ponninyan Selvan s character arc was better than in the previous film. More screen space. He is observant, stealthy, and benevolent. A great warrior. I can see why This man will be named as "King of kings". He oozes that king-like aura. Jayaram was perfect Arulmozhi. His face has that king s glow.

I can understand why he commands the respect that is due to a king, even though he is just a spare. Second son. Not supposed to inherit anything. The climax scene proves it.

I can see why every girl wanted to marry him. I wanna marry him too 😳

Compared to Arulmozhi, his elder brother comes across as a jilted lover. Though I would say his character had more shades in this part than in the previous one.

Aditha s character comes to his own in his sequence with Nandini. A lifetime of regrets. Things that both of them regret. That could have gone differently.

Kundavi was my fav character in part 1. I love her scenes with Nadini and the court minister. She did not have much screen space in part 1 either. But still, her character was powerful. In this, she is sadly reduced to background. Just giving reactions. They should have given her more

Her sequence with Vanthi is lovely. They are cute. Though it could have been longer.

Same for the sibling's reunion. The three actors share great chemistry. Their reunion sequence was too short.

Nandini is one character that shines throughout. I am so in awe of her. She is clever, stealthy, and focused on her goal. She knows exactly what she wants. She is also a girl who once dreamt of a home, a family of her own. Sadly, her dreams were brutally crushed. Snatched by those in power who used her to atone for their own sins

If someone deserved better, it was her. Both her characters deserved the world. I had my reservations about Aish s performance in part 1. But in this one, she truly shines. I loved her

Her chemistry with Vikram is top-notch. They are each other s best pairing.

Overall, Aish owns this one. So, does Jayram. Contrary to popular belief, I enjoyed Ponniyan selvan more than Aditha Karikalan

I know Nandini is a fictional character written by Kali to sort of dramatize Aditha s death

But do you guys think, in a parallel universe Nadini and Ponniyan selvan would have made a great couple

I mean He was all calm and composed. She was feisty. They both were intelligent people, who relied more on logic than emotion.

Arulmozhi would have given her everything Nadini always caved for. A stable, secure, loving relationship. A home of her own
