why was 2002 such a disastrous year for Bollywood?

Only Raaz, Devdas, and Saathiya were clean hits.

Films failed left, right and center.

This was pre-pandemic, and not only that, some very good films such as Company and Aankhein released that year.

Any idea what happened?

After 2001 plane crash in NYC there was fear in people from going into buildings. What if terrorist hijack rickshaws or taxis crash in theatres. So everyone was watching movies at home.😆
