YES on the haq part. Every time she dismissed his haq on her he would get mad. In E2, he calls her. No salam dua and just says "Kahan ho tum". She very non-chalantly says "Meri marzi main jahan bhi hoon" and he gets really pissed off. And yes, the birthday party scene. I mean Murtasim acted like a possessive psycho boyfriend then a psycho family friend 🤪

I also AGREE on him not realizing his feelings.

  • In E2, at the birthday party, recall the scene where Murtasim is holding Merub by her wrist and Rohail puts his hand on Merub's to stop Murtasim from taking her with him. Rohail's line and Murtasim's reaction in E2 is identical to the scene in E20 when Murtasim is holding Merub by her wrist and Anwar puts his hand on Merub's to stop Murtasim from taking her with him. One key difference is that, in E20, after Murtasim shrugs off Anwar's hands, he says: "Merub sirf meri hai".
  • If we see these scenes in E2 and E20 as mirrors, we will see that the haq is not verbalized in E2 but in E20, Murtasim verbalizes this haq. This possibly gives credence to the theory of that the feelings were there before (sub-conscious, unannounced) but after their shaadi, they grew and became apparent aur ab woh chilla chilla kar bol sakta hai

Mirrored dialog of Rohail vs Anwar in E2 vs E20:

  • Rohail: iss ka haath choro [E2] Anwar: Merub ka haath choro Murtasim [E20]

It's call talak-e-tafweez (or delegated divorce) which has to be specified and signed in the nikah contract. Otherwise women cannot give talak and only men can. All nikah documents in Pakistan include this clause but at the nikah ceremony when it comes to fill and sign the nikahnama, the maulvi makes families cut it out. Families will have to be addamant to maulvi for this clause to be kept in the contract. An episode of Kuch Ankahi also had this same situation where the phuppo character spoke out and the clauses in Samia's nikahnama were kept in.

Wonderful analysis. It does shed a lot of light on the birthday incident which I honestly couldn’t make sense of when I saw it. He went full fledged psycho for a girl he supposedly didn’t give two hoots for..

I also admire your ability to dig really convincing evidence to support you hypothesis.

very talented Soul sister 🤗

Wah wah kya critical analysis, sari sabooth, color bolding, aur photographic evidence ke saath present karliya tumne. Zabbardast 👌🏽 😍 👏🏾 👏🏾

Dunno what Nooran was smoking when she said that he developed feelings later on. ( I wonder if Wahaj also added his own interpretation to the character to bring this history to his character. He said he is good at that 😆 I wouldn’t be surprised!)

In Pakistan, since in probably 90%-95% of the cases, maulvis make families take out the talak-e-tafweez [delegated divorce] clause which delegates women the power to give verbal talak, khula remains the only viable option where women have to ask the man to give them talak.

An interesting fact is about Bushra Ansari who plays Maa Begum. I saw an interview of hers some years ago. She got divorced at an old age once all her daughters got married. She said that she is the one who gave her husband talak and how her father even back then in the 70s or 80s when she got married was wise enough to ensure that her right to give talak was not taken out by the maulvi from the nikahnama.
