yup, it is not coming across that way at all which is why we are having a disconnect. katha should be having internal conflict and other than her initially talking to neeraji, we don't see anything of her thoughts. so rather than showing how she is all over the place, it looks like she is being self-righteous.
this is high live wire type situation. we should be on the edge of our seat worrying about what will happen to viaan just like ehsaan is. however, I feel detached. actually I thought a few times whether to put off watching the episodes and this has been my mood every day this week.
viaan is in the fight for his life in some ways. this isn't some small matter. his honour and integrity is questioned and there will be ripple effects for life in all aspects of his personal and professional life. so this isn't the type to have subtle and muted scenes. it needs to be emotional and we need to feel the urgency. without EK type techniques, a simple way to do that is to have that kind of melodramatic music which adds those feelings.
am not having enough music knowledge to explain myself well but world over, we can recognize happy music, easy listening, sad music and high voltage type music and we don't need to know the lyrics or the culture or the context of the scene. we can tell just by the notes, the spaces between the music notes (speed) and how the instruments are played. the music they have chosen feels easy listening music -- reminds me of walk in the hills after the rains -- type mood. it is not emotionally dramatic. there are no ups and downs and no speeding up and slowing down -- it needs to convey an internal battle. when we have that kind of background music, we immediately feel the drama.
you can have softer more easy type listening music but you still need those ups and downs to convey drama. then that creates a more melo feel. that is missing. if we had that, then we would know how difficult this is for katha without even hearing her thoughts. we can't have subtle muted scenes with music that sounds like quiet time mood. subtle muted romance works when it is set in the middle of the storm -- that makes it more dramatic.
am thinking of BGMs like these that add drama....
