So a lot of Pak shows are based on established literary works right. So the concern is TB is not based on a well written novel, problem is not the romance. It is written by a female writer who is basically seen as writing fan fiction very easy to mock. Will they get the same flak if they did romeo and juliet.
ITV is just giant toxic mess of all you can eat fan fiction bonanza, there is no logic, no credibility, no substance. Yes we watch it and take what we can leave the rest, but I can understand general worries that Pak dramas are shifting to this ITV format of story telling. I doubt one drama will change the entire face of the industry.
Does doing a drama like this take away their credibility as actors. I don't even get what 'doing such shows' even mean. What defines their credibility, how did they earn it. If a show doesn't send out a social message that means you are damaging your credibility, they are actors not activists.
If Tom Cruise did fifty shades of grey we would all be like dude what the hell, not just because the project is bad because it is beneath him. Now the real question is are Meerab and Murtasim beneath Yumna and Wahaj, if you believe it is then ofcourse they are damaging their credibility, if you think there is scope in these characters for them to do their job honestly and push their limits then I say bravo. I personally think Yumna and Wahaj are expanding their portfolio, learning new things, improving their craft, so if all this is true then what is so credibility damaging.
The same argument people say A list Hollywood actors should not do marvel movies, because cartoon caricature villains and heroes are beneath them. Now who wants to argue this point?
My 2 cents (Strictly my POV)-
Why do we have such pre-conceived notions that A listers shouldnt do such stories? We also have a general misconception that writing love stories is easy , imo developing characters who readers are ready to stan, ship and swoon is way harder. For me, a character arc/development in a love story is how the central relationship challenges the characters and how it drives their growth! I only look at their journey, the other characters are irrelevant for me. Murtasim's and Meerab's story is a relationship derived conflict - their conflict is the driving force of this story and that's the plot!
Murtasim's -
From "I wouldnt shed a drop of blood for u let alone..."- in episode 3
To "Cant imagine a life without you (along thsoe lines) "-in episode 20
This is character growth!
I keep revisiting all their scenes now and then and everytine I find something new. There is so much that u can interpet from their nuances,Wahaj and Yumna dont just regurgitate their lines and exit and their brilliance is the main USP of this show!
My take away from all cast/crew interviews was how both these actors prepared for their roles ,it clearly shows that they've created their own backstories to bring these 2 characters to life, no wonder both Wahaj and Yumna had so many creative differences/inputs to deal with. Every role is two-dimensional,because the writer cannot supply complete details , no matter how much u write you’d still leave something out. That's where the good actors come in,they take in the details supplied to them and use their imagination to fill in the rest and this lets us the audience to interpret their actions in so many different angles. Wahaj has worked so well on his craft and it shows, looks like he has improved his skills under the best directors- Haisaam Hussain,Kashif Nisar and is using those experiences so well. I am blown away by his range - roles like Murtasim/Jimmy will do him more good than roles like Salman(I love Bilal but its sad to see him getting wasted in Kuch Ankahi-his role is so flat and there's not much scope to perform).
**On a side, I dont get these "Holier-than-thou" attitudes of some people(Aamna from SH in particular), am all for constructive criticism but repeatedly calling it trashy, fluff, classifying Murtasim's love as daddy's love(like seriously?? My husband hates to see me cry so does it make him my daddy..hell,no! ) anyway to each his own I guess. I dont even remember the last time I was this deeply invested in fictional characters and am thoroughly enjoying this ride of Me and Mu stumbling, fumbling n loving like none other!
