Congratulations to GGT for their thrilling victory. 👏
Gujarat Giants won by 11 runs. Congrats👏
Gujarat Giants claim their first win of the WPL, but they were given a really scare today. RCB lost Mandhana early, but Sophie Devine and Ellyse Perry stitched together a good partnership. The former in particular showed her brute power, tonking a few sixes to her maiden WPL fifty. Perry was looking good for a big score herself, but cut one towards backward point in the 12th over. From then on, Gujarat kept getting timely wickets to stay ahead of the game. Ashleigh Gardnerer picked two wickets off her last two overs to kill the game. RCB found some big blows from Heather Knight and Shreyanka Patil in the end, but it was too little, too late. RCB slump to another loss.
Smriti Mandhana, RCB captain: In our bowling, we gave 10-15 above par. Really proud of the way the girls batted. It's a good outfield - one end is really short. That did play on some of our bowlers' minds. It's about being hard on ourselves. The way Shreyanka bowled and batted. Also the way Kanika showed her approach. Those two are the positives from our domestic setup.
Harleen Deol: Feels good to win for the first time. The wicket was really good, so backed myself to play to my strengths. (On Sneh Rana) She's a fighter, she was bleeding a bit on her finger but I knew she'll play on no matter what.
11pm Relief for Giants. More misery for RCB. Where do they go from here? The bowling hasn't come to the party. There has been immense pressure on the batting unit as a result. Tonight, they made a good fist of it courtesy Sophie Devine and Heather Knight, but left themselves a little too much towards the back end. Having posted their first win, the Giants will hope Sneh Rana is fit and fine. She hurt her already bruised finger while bowling and can ill-afford another injury.
Sophia Dunkley | Player of the Match: Bit tough and go and one point, but very proud of the girls today. Really glad to go out there and get a win. I just try to hit the ball hard, hit in the right areas and hope for the best. It was a close finish today, but happy to come out on top.
Sneh Rana, GGT Captain: Amazing, incredible, superb effort from the girls, very proud of them. Injury is fine, it will get fine. Defending here in CCI is never easy, it is always high scoring but we lived up to the game. (On Sutherland death bowling) We thought of giving her the overs because she bowls good wide yorkers. I think we have good balance, we have a good combination. This is something we were looking for since the first game, but now that we have got our first points, we are very happy.
