The reason I say I don’t relate to these two is not because I don’t believe there are people like this. They may be people like this, and probably are. But they are not relatable.
For me, if they are not relatable, unless it’s excellent storytelling which in no way I think this show is, they are not even believable or in the sense I don’t feel for either of them.
I am literally being as superficial towards the show as it is to me. My fascination with Murtasim’s shawl is as metaphorical as you can get.
For someone like me who has grown up for some time in a joint family, brought up by a single mother, lost my fiancé when I was young, had a boyfriend who frankly I was unloading my emotional baggage on, and then rejected his marriage proposal. I can fit a lot of stereotypical stories we see on ITV and Pak TV. I have become very adept in compartmentalizing what I get from shows. I want to be able to enjoy different things from different shows.
For e.g. I am watching currently quite a few shows on TV
Katha Ankahee - I totally believe and feel for the main leads. I don’t know anyone like them but I don’t mind analysing their behavior. I totally relate to some aspects and thoroughly enjoy the office athmosphere for a change.
Kuch Ankahe - I know loads and loads of people like the ones in this show. In fact in many ways, my siblings and family are very similar, this show has my heart. Highly relatable for me.
Mere Ban Jao - Can’t relate to the characters, most of the times, I am wondering what the heck…som situations are not quite believable BUT the storytelling is excellent, the way the characters have been written and portrayed - hit it out of the park. Love to read more analysis of that show.
Lagta hai yeh weekend Mujhe shawl nahi milne vaali
