I take issue domestic violence isn’t just hitting a woman. I sorry but in my opinion what abhimanyu did to akshara is domestic violence. I won’t repeat his whole history of bad behaviour, but just what he did that single day when he divorced her, yes he abused her and caused her trauma.
there is something people don’t consider what it feels like to have things thrown around. When you have anger management problems it is a tendency to break things around you, but those who do this don’t realize the panic fear trauma it inspires in someone who has to watch this. When you are with a therapist one of the ways to deal with frustration anger is you are given something to punch out like boxing, but that is a safe space. I speak from personal experience my parents hit me as a kid, after a certain age they didn’t hit me, but they would throw things around me and it is how my panic disorder got triggered, because the noise reminded me of my childhood trauma and fear of being hit. Even now when the door gets loudly shut, I get anxiety.
I go back to that scene in the bedroom. Abhimanyu wasn’t in a safe space to show off his anger, he was in their bedroom which he shared with his wife trashing not his things but their things which he had no right to destroy. What he was saying is I can’t hit you so I will destroy what belongs to us, by doing that he was punishing her. After repeated pleas from his wife he didn’t stop until the final command of divorce. He got those signatures from Akshara under duress, with a show of violence. Anytime you get anyone to do something by threatening them isn't that abusive, that is true in any relationship whether it be friends, or family or parents or marriage.
If you have seen good domestic violence movies, you would see the man break things around his wife, those actions trigger panic fear in their spouse before they strike their wife. It is just the many ways a man tortures and controls his wife and she is left to clean up the mess of broken things, metaphor for how her life is broken and she is broken. If this show had any realism akshara being an anxiety patient already would have been so traumatized she would need serious mental help with years of therapy.
