She always does. I don’t see a big deal either way & I think we make innocuous things a big deal, something to talk about.

Even in DP’s global red-carpet appearances for LV & Cartier etc, international appearances, she always talks in her natural accent. Which is very nice but I don’t see why we should hound others who don’t. Accents change.

Trying to reduce your heavy accent ( And I think that's what he's doing - not trying to put on) is not the same as totally adopting another accent which usually sounds fake (and not easy to do if you're not a native speaker and didn't grew up listening to those accents)

SRK's English doesn't have heavy accent, is not tough on ears or jarring IMO

BTW BW and native Hindi speakers have mocked southerners' Hindi accent for years

It seems whatever accent they speak - English , Hindi or any other language - is the de facto accent and the rest is fake, cringey or put on 🤷‍♀️

just now read a tweet which is an interesting view,

when jr ntr spoke hindi with no accent (close to a native speaker) it was lauded while there were comments that RC had an accent

then why the same view is not there for english

hrithik and srk talk in their regular accent when they are abroad same one they use in india … how come they are not being miss-understood by foreign media

Because people can tell the difference between someone trying to be understood and someone putting on an accent to fit in.

I am trying to remember that Aish and PC are also looking for work in Hollywood, which means they do have to fit in. They shouldn't be judged, and I've been guilty of doing that.

But there's a significant difference between making a conscious effort to speak so the other person gets what you're saying and speaking in a manner that makes you accepted.

When I speak Marathi, I even pronounce Hindi/English words in a different way. Same with my mother tongue.

It's a natural human tendency to sound like the majority so they're understood clearly.

But English is given so much importance in our country, that its accent is considered a subject of pride instead of a tool to convey your thoughts. Hence this thread. 🤦

I just think that a lot of people actually need this 🤣

True

I also was the category who thought why someone puts on a fake accent etc because I was a frog in the well when studying in convents where everyone knew English from generations

It is only when I was in state university with ppl from vernacular mediums I realized the social capital of English and how it impacts every aspiration and goal in our society

They all have accents. Masand and Anupama and the BH interviews were always in mostly english. KWK is in english. Only people I have seen just no trying to speak it are Diljit and Nawaz

No, I don’t think he faked his accent, he was just putting on a bit of a twang b/c a lot of Americans wouldn’t/understand his heavy ‘Indian’ English accent which is totally understandable & that goes both ways, & if “we Indians” didn’t like “fake things”, then we wouldn’t be such a big consumer of Chinese goods & severe hypocrisy. 😉

I am cringing at this post. How entitled and arrogant some people are.
