Watched the episode. Brilliantly executed. Setting, shots, nuances in acting, music, lyrics, everything perfect. I did not expect such an episode in ITV

The restless Viaan, waiting for Katha, expecting her not to come, Katha and her helplessness, the way she reached to the corridor and trying to knock the door. It was brilliant.

Katha's helplessness and fear, yet her determination to go ahead with deal just to save her son. Aditi is phenomenal. The way Viaan asked her if she wants she can go back and she decided to go ahead with the deal. And the money talk.

They should have shown a thoughtful Viaan with eyes open in the bed while Katha leaves. The devastation of Katha was executed well. But Viaan seems to be like its a regular thing for him. But his expressions and monologue while Katha was leaving confused me. Is he attracted to her? Has he started falling in love? He offered her a deal and she accepted. Why is he behaving as if she broke his trust?

I felt heartbroken while watching Katha holding on to the bag so close to her chest and walking away fast, Aditi did a wonderful job.

Now we know that PapaG agreed to pay and MamaG could not reach to katha. So redemption of PapaG is on the way. I hope they won't show PapaG paying the bill, scrapping the basis of ONS.

PS: I don't take Katha as a victim of Viaan. She is a victim of circumstances, but she made an active choice and stuck to her choice. She is not considering herself as a victim, I call her a Survivor. She is a fighter and she never gives up. I won't blame for making a choice over all other options. We all do make choices. So does Katha.

To me, Katha is the only hero of the story as of now, a single working mother and widow, who is fighting the world and her own conscious to save her son from dying. To me, Viaan is not a hero yet. He is a highly prejudiced and privileged man, and I wish to see him regret about what he did with her

I am ready for the regretful Viaan running behind Katha seeking her forgiveness, in the process falling in love with her and a unique love story unfolding.

I haven’t got around to watching yesterday’s episode yet.

Thank you for the tag - I’m enjoying this show a lot it’s so different from the norm. I’ve never seen these two actors before but they are so good.

I can’t wait to watch when the ML finds out Katha’s reason for needing the money.

Her father-in-law had clearly refused n even wished death for Aarav. Crowd funding couldn't get 1 crore coz Time was less that's why she got desperate but still my point is she is majbur n bechari becoz she is torturing herself to save her son's life. But some people said 'she is NOT torturing herself' then is she enjoying according to them? May be they think that working hard n sleeping with boss is same thing for katha. fir toh Viaan don't need to feel guilty at all according to them

@ bold:

That's exactly why Katha's decision comes in the grey category here, and that's one of the reasons that makes this story grey. There's no right or wrong. In some people's opinion, Katha cannot be whitewashed by calling her a bechari or a victim, mainly because she made this choice, repeatedly, while having other potential options around. For some others, she's torturing herself and is completely a white character.

But there's no black and white here. It's grey all the way. Katha is neither fully enjoying herself nor is she fully a bechari or a victim torturing herself. It's in between. I think @bhshre95 has made a clear point in a post a few pages back regarding this.

If we are ready to whitewash Katha, then why can't we extend the same logic to Viaan and rationalise his insecurities and thought processes?

If we are squarely blaming Viaan, then why aren't we blaming Katha equally for saying yes and going through with the indecent offer?

Nobody is defending Viaan here. What he said and did are definitely wrong. But it's great that the female lead is shown to be grey. In real life, people often make choices, some of which are questionable. Just that she made a very unconventional choice that's debatable, and that's not generally expected of female leads in ITV.

Well I put my old account (Dr Strange) on hibernation so here with this .

So seeing all the discussion since yesterday I am wondering how katha can be blamed even?

People saying that she should have explored more possibilities, when she got the offer by rival company she thought she had time, but when she got that ons proposal time wasn't there even then she denied. But then Dr called her . People are thinking here as a women but she took the step as a mother. What will you do it your child is on death bed? She had no choice. Ehsan was not there what was the guarantee that he would give certain amount to her after all he maybe a partner but ultimate call is of Viaan to an extent. Moreover loan companies already denied then insurance company too. Accepting rival offer would be a legal dispute and I guess we are aware it causes jail and fine of certain amount. Now to get the money at fastest the only option she was left was ons . There was no time to explore more options . And didn't she try all them? So how can we even blame her

And now about Viaan , I guess he is infatuated by her . Love and liking for someone are not just those long eyelocks , beauty but sometimes intelligence, dedication, determination etc so here Katha had all these, unlike other staff members who get scared of him, she stood her ground and impressed him with her presentation so much that he used the same lines infront of sheikhs. And she going to amrita against him also made him attracted towards her. In his subconsciousness he wanted her to be the one who will make him believe in love and in women so he came with the most stupid proposal. Now the problem is that he live in his own made up world where only he decides right and wrong so for him only she is wrong and he is seeing himself as a victim . But story is about the same to pull him from his world to the real world and to Kathy's world.

During ONS scene he was attracted towards her otherwise no way Viaan would be a ons guy. He is emotionally invested in her and now his frustration will come in form if taunts and bitter words for her until he gets the biggest shock of his life.

If viaan’s layers are unfolded and audiance are connected to his character as he’s the ML ,at that point if ons is shown it will be biggest shock to the audience .

beginning is fyn bt the progression isnt proper. the shock is basis of story i understand that

nah; no one is blaming katha. depending on our lens, we are going to see her actions differently. the discussion really happens on how we are to view katha -- as a bechari or not? for some, she had no choice; for some, she is making an active choice; for some, it is somewhere in between.

now why are we having this discussion? for some, her being a bechari means one night stand can be excused and therefore, it is important to see her that way. for some she is the victim. for others, she is only the victim of circumstance and not a victim. for some, regardless of her circumstances, it is her choice whether she does one night stand and no judgement either way. for some, she is taking control of the narrative and that does not fit the definition of bechari.

if one has strong feelings against fast lifestyle, hookups and one night stands, then it is important to focus on katha's helplessness in order to justify her making this choice. if one is ambivalent about those things, then it is more interesting to see her owning this choice.

have said this before -- basically this drama is a grey story that sits somewhere between sanskari and fast lifestyle. but depending on where we sit on various issues, we can have a mixture of different views. this story works precisely because we live in a social time where some things are changing and some are not. is it a bad thing to be conservative? no. is it a bad thing to have a fast lifestyle? not really. is it a bad thing to be somewhere in between? no. since there is no fixed standard, we will come at it from different angles. 🤷

I agree with this. But on the whole actually she had no choice . And yes definitely she is the Victim of circumstances than anything or anyone.

Adnan and aditi make a great pair

They have just the right chemistry

Its not like a passionate romantic one

I am not able to out right words but the agony, redemption kind of one

well, whether or she had a choice will also depend on how you look at the situation. in my view, the writers havent' done anything to say that this was the only choice she had and therefore it was no choice. she had a bunch of choices and basically all sucked.

1. fight with in-laws till they cave: more humiliation and hurt

2. sell designs to competitor: all sorts of career implications, jail time etc

3. tell ishaan and company the truth: maybe lose job and only get small amount anyway

4. one night stand with viaan.

basically all her options sucked. but does that mean she had no choice? that will depend from person to person. I think for some people a lack of desirable outcome means she had no choice. for others, outcome has nothing to do with whether you had choice. uncomfortable outcomes does not mean you did not make a choice.

also, from the discussions, I have learned that we all have different definitions of victim and victim of circumstance -- another reason why we are getting into debates.

for me, victim is strictly a crime related word. so if there is a victim, there is an agressor/perpetrator and a crime occured. so usage of that word means a black and white storytelling where the unjust need to be punished. so basically crime dramas.

and with victim of circumstance, again I see it in more crime related. say, a victim commits a murder as self-defence.

otherwise, would I say terrible circumstances means someone is a victim of circumstance? am not sure. the truth is we are all majboori at some point for various reasons. we all have storms and crosses to bear and we make terrible and ridiculous choices based on the tools, information and our own feelings. does that mean we are victims of circumstance because we made a stupid unwise choice? nah.

I also think that a lot of these discussions will happen based on how we feel about things like fate and circumstances. do stuff happen to us or do we make active choices all the time? for some, everything is a choice. for others, stuff just happens and we have no choice. for some, it is somewhere in between.

basically grey stories mean we are going to be splitting hairs. we don't realize how nuanced our views are till we get into discussions. so that is the plus point of such a drama. it forces you to evaluate your response and why you think that way --- in a way, you get to know yourself and where you stand.
