Funny enough that's what he would have done with mallika. Tried faking being good to get but back-bite about her to his dad. For some reason he is able to be his real self and more comfortable showing his true thoughts and feelings to Nehmat.

He was forced to marry mallika too, but mallika was in love with him and he had no feelings for anybody else, which makes marrying mallika more convenient for him even though he has no interest in her, but marrying someone who loves someone else is not the ideal marriage anybody would want to get into, and it also means he would be married to a girl who is less invested in him and his career goals, whereas mallika would have been because she loves him. Mallika would have been easier for him to adjust to because she would have prioritised him, but nehmat who loves someone else may not ever prioritise him the way he expects of his wife.

I am extremely disappointed with Ekam. Even though I am aware of how much Ekam had to endure, I disagree with his actions. Ekam is unable to notice his family because he is so preoccupied with his own grief. He is ignorant with the fact that he is Mallika and his mother's only support system. In the middle of the night, his mother and sister had to search for him. In a chaotic situation, instead of acting like an adult, Ekam acts like an immature teen.

Renuka should be upset with her own people instead of cursing Nehmat. Earlier she had to put up with her suicidal husband's stupid behaviour. Now, her kids are following suit. Nobody really gives her any thought.
