Yes, u got it right! They are not the real khans.

national awards are of course rigged but much lesser than filmfare types and like it or not actually bjp has a done a much better job of the awards, rigged is lesser

kangana's only non-derserving is that manikarnika

in 70s -80s these awards were entirely left dominated so only art types won it and "commercial" cinema did not bother about it, in fact thyey thought probably getting the award will bring down their market value

then bw woke up and wanted to show that if you get filmfare i will get national and we saw some lobbying with mediocres like raveena for some crappy movie, anil kapoor for pukar!!, saif, karisma etc winning

regarding the khans, srk's chak de and swades is good, so are aamir's dangal etc but i would check who got it that year before really judging it further

they may be the best in hindi but what about compared to others

the benchmark is not saif in hum tum

Which performances of theirs can be touted as award worthy?

Irfan Khan deserved amn’t awards but not sure if he got any. Saif’s, though is a good actor, him getting it for Hum Tum made the awards a laughing stock.

And don’t forget NA are for the entire country not just the Hindi Language movies.

ChAk de year Prakash raj, this can be given benefit of doubt as he is good actor and movie kanchivaram has good reviews ( I haven’t watched)

If Saif or Akki or Kangana can get them for ordinary films or Ajay can get awards for even half good films then why not Khans?

I think Swades, CDI, Lagaan, 1947 Earth, Dangal were all worthy aspirants for National award as leads or supporting actors etc.

I agree about ideology though. Earlier NAs were mostly given to art films starring Shabana, Om, Naseer, Smita types. Other films were not considered.

Ideology plays role nowadays too otherwise why would Ajay get award for Tanhaji?
