Even outside of school shooting,Arthur may be wasn't the ideal person, insulting a rape victim about their way of dealing with stuff isn't good.

I don't think so. Anyone in place of Ani would have killed Arthur.

Keep d rape and murder separate. In no way are they linked.

Ani was scared of reporting a rape, but she wasn't scared of murdering a murderer.

I think most people will agree that courage is linked to self-preservation. Where the self is threatened, courage is inversely proportional.

2. Human-beings are complex. Ani killed Arthur because it was the right thing to do, under the circumstances. He was no longer a friend. He had turned into a murderer and a monster in front of her eyes

1. You said "being bullied does not mean you pick up gun" and this was no bullying. He did not decide to Columbine because somebody was bullied.

2. I'm not questioning Ani's motive for killing Arthur, only her will and action to act on her motives much like Arthur. It was out of character for her. The movie just wanted an end to the school shooting episode and I suppose this was the easiest way to put an end to it seeing he was only targeting the clique that was involved with the rape.

For me, I loved how the movie gradually revealed Ani as a multi-dimensional person, rather than just a brave or fearless person. She was brave at times, at times she was a coward. And she had her reasons.

When she came out and wrote her truth, she was inspired by her mentor. No longer did she have to hide parts of herself to make her palatable.

Truth is, movie is extremely well-made and nuanced. It didn't show Ani as a complete hero, but at very stage, she had her reasons for doing what she did.

Although I agree with this I have to say Ani's life was not threatened directly. Arthur was no way gonna shoot her. He had even let other students go and was only after the clique that was involved in the gang rape. So her motive aside, her courage to act on her instincts makes no sense because if you remember she shuts the door on the face of one more kid who had raped her when Arthur was after them so she did have unbridled anger towards the perpetrators. I'm just going to chalk it up to bad writing because the whole school shooting and the aftermath made no sense.

1. It was the systematic end-effect of being treated like trash.

2. It was not out of character, that's what I'm trying to say. Maybe we can agree to disagree.

I didn't get that either. That was a major inconsistency imo. Because she couldn't muster the courage to even report after being told off so many times by her friend neither did she hurt the perpetrators when he handed her the knife. But for whatever reason all of a sudden she murdered the boy? I think it would have been a miserable life for the kid if he were alive because his victims were rich white AHs. The movie did disservice to Arthur because he is remembered as a kid who murdered his classmates out of jealousy but not that he stood up for his friends.

Yea it was very weird. I wouldn’t have had problem if the law got to Arthur if he killed innocents, but for her to kill him suddenly was out of her character and plus he stood up for her and wasn’t a threat to her. I even kinda felt bad for him. Instead of doing anything to Dean who was her rapist she goes for Arthur.

Being bullied does not mean picking up the gun. There are other ways of handling a situation.

I haven't finished the movie yet. But this thread has retriggerred my interest, will resume and finish it tonight.

That being said , with minimal context that I have the bold bits in above quoted post seem to contradict each other. 🧐
