Another one- a rare gem by Lata, from the film Patanga (1949) that also has the famous ‘Mere piya gaye Rangoon’, music by C. Ramchandra, lyrics by Rajinder Krishan,

So beautifully sung & the composition? Goosebumps!

This is a song I accidentally heard being played on one of the old B&W shows on TV (some Retro Chayageet type show I can't recall the name of) and it stuck! I spent years digging it up on the internet, haven’t ever seen this movie but you would all agree it’s a beautiful song, no?

RK and Nargis look gorgeous and Talat & Geeta Dutt! What a combination! There are only a handful of duets by them, so that makes this one extra special (I wonder why though, they sound lovely together, their voices are the perfect blend of softness & melody) Music is by Khemchand Prakash- the one that composed the unforgettable ‘Aayega aanewala’ & lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni from the movie Jan Pehchaan (1950).

A small bit of trivia I discovered about this song: Asha & Kishore were supposed to sing it at first but the producer Robin Chatterjee thought they weren’t good enough singers! 😯 So Talat and Geeta Dutt were chosen instead.

Lovely song!

O sajan tere liye hai...o sajan tere liye hai ....When Raj Kapoor lifted his left hand in an apparent attempt to convey his sense of joy, Nargis made a slight leap, a soft jig in a subtle way ... what a lovely expression of love! --- Now, the leads typically act as though we are observing the culmination of a couple's love by performing karate or PT to communicate their feelings!

I heard this song many times earlier, thank you Lizzie Priya for reintroducing this song to me, after all, here are Geeta Dutt, Rak Kapoor, Talat, all are my favorites.

Hmn... is it necessary to say that I am active here and tag me whenever you post good songs?! 😛

Here is a song from me to all of you --

“Ye dil aur unki nigahon ke saaye” is a song from 1973 Hindi film ‘Prem Parbat’. It is believed that the print of the film got destroyed over time and hence the film and its songs are unable to be viewed. The song is here played back on the scenes of Madhumati (1958), primarily consisting scenes from the song “Aaja re pardesi”. Both the songs share many similarities between them which makes this superimposition attempt quite real. The soothing music by Jaidev, amazing lyrics by Jan Nisar Akhtar and the haunting voice of Lata Mangeshkar are just breathtaking.

I spent almost a couple of hours trying to dig up this song and finally - SUCCESS!

My challenge: I could not remember who sung it (I thought it was Noor Jehan and Surendra and spent a major portion of the 2 hours hunting down their songs 😆 & turned out to be Mukesh and Shamshad), could not recall what movie it was from (thought it was Anmol Ghadi turned out to be Anokhi Ada 😆), and I could not for the life of me recall the lyrics. The only thing I could remember was the tune (so confounding! Arghhhh!😵) & that the MD was Naushad (the only thing I got right 😆)

Anyways here it is & did I mention I love it? 😳

The actress is Naseem Bano, Saira Bano’s mum. It’s a sad song but the end had me cracking up! 🤣

Here’s another song I really enjoy

Tumko Fursat ho

Film: Bewafa (1952)

Music: AR Qureshi who’s none other than Ustad Allah Rakha, the famous tabla player and father of Ustad Zakir Hussain and Fazal Qureshi

Lyrics: Sarshar Sailani (I confess I have never heard of him, need to research him a bit)

Singer: Talat Mahmood

I love how this is picturized and the unusual tune, RKs expressions and the way he keeps tossing the fruit are so entertaining! 😆 And Nargis in a swimsuit. ☺️ She’s one bold woman!

How does that work? Just turn on the mic and sing to Google assistant?
