Until Anupama Chopra conducted one of her Roundtables with writers, I wasn't even familiar with them. It was interesting to see their take. Yes, they are poorly paid. Anurag Kashyap made some good points. Caste is one of the ugly truths of Indian society. You don't need it in every other story. But if you are going to tell a story of inter-caste or inter-religious love story, it cannot be ignored. You can't just gloss it over as Rich vs Poor especially in films on rural India. But "quirky" and moralizing is the only flavor of those category of films.

Unfortunately many among our current crop of writers, directors and actors seems to have no clue of life outside metros. They have been educated abroad and grew up on English films. Their iconic character is 'Poo' from K3G or Kajol from DDLJ. They haven't bothered to look before the 90s or maximum 80s. No clue on strong female characters portrayed by actors like Waheeda Rahman, Hema Malini or Sharmila Tagore who portrayed strong women characters along with the silly flower-pot heroines. Ranbir seems to be the exception. He at least seems to have seen the older films thanks to his Kapoor legacy. The people from his family swing on a wide pendulum of talent. From Great Uncle Shashi probably the best in terms of sheer talent to Auntie Babitha one of the best examples of flower pot heroines.

vfx is an enhancer, writing is the core

do we even know or remember any writer's name after salim-javed, even the director sidelined

bw currently doesnt have writers who are steeped in indian ethos, roots or even mythology for such themes

as anurag kashyap said they are all sobo types who think it is possible if they see it done by hollywood

they think in english and translate

even if they get them like chandraprakash dwivedi the star system spoils it

in tv the prithviraj, mahabharat series has better writers

they have to look out of their circles and living rooms to find them, but these ppl are condescending to anybody who is non-elite

kitna bhi vfx achha kar log kuch nahin hoga
