this is very much the case then and even now to some extent,
the casting couch etc does not make them "marriage material" which is why somebody like the kapoors did nor want their daughters to work in movies
the only ones who circumvented it were those with illustrious backgrounds like sharmila tagore
look at the all the women then, either married much below wealth, stature, etc an sometime totally down and out ppl like zeenat or second wives (hema, sridevi) some got lucky like nargis
yes, zeenat was a very sad case, you can see the damage to her eye even now,
that is why i saw some say that what happened to sanjay khan (the tipu sultan fire) is karma
she later faced a lot of abuse with mazhar too
