It's nto just about the accent. Its the way she presents herself in interviews (Ellen 😆) and on social media.

And the justificatiosn given about bad, racist U.S.😆

1. She is not a POC whose ancestors were brought here forcibly so this is in fact the country of her birth.

2. She's not someone who was brought by her parents or was born to immgirant parents. So the U.S. is not her country by birth or naturalization.

3. She's not someone who immigrated out of financial necessity. She was making big bucks in Bollywood.

4. She says she faced racism here as a child. So it's not like she didn't know.

5. When she faced racism again (did she claim it?), she could've returned.

So why is she still there, faking her accent and demeanor and trying to *fit in?*

This is currently the best time for a desi to debut in U.S when they are actively trying to create roles for POC and women. That said people like Mindy have an edge in since they have been born and brought up in U.S and are more familiar with the culture and the industry. Also Hollywood seems to have a thing for more ordinary looking girl-next-door people for their desi characters. Which would explain the success of Tabu, Priyanka and Freida.Unlike Bollywood where the requirement is for fair,beautiful and glamorous.I'm curious to know how a fair actress like Alia would be received there. Her film might work because Gal Gadot.But would Alia take?

Reverse the scenario. If a white person tries to imitate or adapt Indian accent, he/she'd be appreciated for the efforts to assimilate. But, since PC is a desi girl, we desi like to mock her. I see nothing wrong with her accent. She's married to a white male, is living abroad for over a decade, has done english shows, interacts with whites on daily basis, it's natural for her to adapt local accent, you subconsciously pick it up. No one can completely eliminate their natural accent but can definitely reduce over time, there's nothing pretentious about it.

Priyanka was a grown woman in her 30s when she moved to U.S. to start shooting for Quantico. She actually had to take speech and accent classes to pass an an American born character and her Indian accent still seeped through on the show. Quantico has been off air for years now and her accent keeps becoming more Americanized. It’s obvious she’s continued to work on her accent long after Quantico. It is not a natural process at all, not at her age.

Is she a hard working hustler? Yes she is. Is she also fake and pretentious? Yes she is.

Katrina is white, Amy Jackson is white. They were appreciated even when they were being dubbed by Indian voice artists because they weren’t able to pull it off on their own. Katrina’s accent isn’t British, it’s a mix of where she’s lived for years and that’s how accents are work. There’s numerous other white actresses pretending to be Indian on screen in India and are appreciated for it.

Even off screen Katrina doesn’t have a British accent, her accent has changed because of where she lives… Thats how accents work. Not sure what’s so pretentious about that. In this interview’s case Priyanka’s taking in the same tone as the interviewer, her English accent isn’t much different than usual.

All right. I can sort of understand gaining it naturally over time.

I don't think you did it, but there are people here blaming U.S. racism for PC's accent when she went there voluntarily and is staying voluntarily. What rot.

She grew up in different places and that’s why she has a more generic accent, for lack of a better word. And she’s been in India for almost 20 years but is not speaking with an Indian accent. Accents don’t change naturally when you are an adult.

Katrina doesn’t have a distinct accent because she moved around a lot, that’s the point. Had she lived in England longer she probably would have had a British accent like her siblings but she doesn’t, it’s mixed. Just like Priyanka, if she hadn’t gone to the US for high school or lived in the US for a decade after that and wasn’t trained by language coaches she would sound different too. Just like Katrina’s accent doesn’t sound 100% Indian neither does Priyanka’s American accent but both have been impacted by their experiences. Saying accents can’t change or adapt due to surroundings isn't true.
