I hate how formulaic the discussion is. KJo is essentially saying "Aamir did DCH, RDB, and TZP, so it is his fault BW films can no longer compete with masala films"


3-4 South films did well at the BO for the Hindi-speaking audience this year. Out of a massive South industry that makes a gazillion of films. Those films that did well did so because they were able to reach people's hearts. Aamir's films in the 2000s and early 2010s were the same even though they were not even remotely masala films...the common factor was that they emotionally appealed to the population. I find Karan not recognizing all of this astounding (and alarming)


Also have we forgotten about Rohit Shetty films? 😆 BW hasn't forgotten how to make or churn out those films. It's simply unable to agree on what content is niche and what isn't😆

Karan is not a storyteller. He likes to pretend he is, but he's not. He won't hire any actual scriptwriters or read any books (as he admitted).


So he doesn't understand what makes good storytelling.

karan's claim to fame is reflected glory. by association with stars, those with charisma, talent, he ingratiates himself with those whose star is ascending and basks in their popularity, example srk, kajol, kareena, chopras and now he is there with rajamouli or compering kgf

but problem is the the actors he is associated with now arent the srks anymore and may not be anywhere close given the times

it is the law of nature, just as he tries to associate with superior, others will also do the same, which means he will only attract those who gain from him

if he is betting on the fact that if he makes somebody a star (alia or say Vijay deverakonda tomorrow) i doubt, it is give and take only between equals. because he has no clout as a filmamker for somebody who can attract the top directors

an srk will choose a hirani over him anyday

only an ayan will work for him not a slb or rajamouli

his focus on networking and not his craft has led to this, though i now think he is not really capable of any creativity

Aamir does all kinds of movies, and the common element is they all resonate with audiences emotionally


Nothing path-breaking or revolutionary in that


Karan considers anything which isn't trash as loss of tonality


Dhobi Ghaat is the only film of Aamir's where he broke away from the mould completely....rest all fall under commercial category only

Easily forgetting Rohit Shetty and also countless Salman movies which have made money left right and center in the same duration. Both niche multiplex kind of films and super massey films can simultaneously make money, still. Acchi movie ho bas.
