I think it had more to do with the narrative and age of Imlie . In Arylie phase 1, romance had to be subtle bcz Imlie was a teenager with failed marriage. So Aru didn't burden her with his intensity and let her decide pace of their relationship.

Now things have changed. Now narratively, Imlie is much older and they both are intensely passionately in love with eo. So we will more intense, push pull scenes
