metacrisis suggested a separate thread for the names that Mahābhārata characters were called. I am happy to put my twist on it.

In this thread, I (or any other member) will post names that appear in the text of Mahābhārata, and you have to figure out who the character is. It can be done by logic if you know how Saṃskṛta words are coined.

^^I want to say Bhishma

Because Apah means water and geya usually means child/young/something like that...so Bheeshma's the only one who's expressly a river's child.

Correct guess! Āpagā means "moving with water," a river. Āpageya means the river's son, which is Bhīṣma.

Correct answer! It's not a "lucky guess" because you're using either memory or logic, right? The son of Subala is called Saubala, and that is Śakuni.

So, who would be Saubalī by the same logic?

I have a riddle -

In Harivamsa one of Krishna s cousins is said to be adopted by a significant character in Mahabharat. Guess the kingdom and the cousin

Correct! Out of several women in Mahābhārata who came from the Gandhāra country and were known as Gāndhārī, the most prominent Gāndhārī was Subala's daughter and Śakuni's sister. As Subala's daughter, she is called Saubalī, but her personal name is undisclosed.

4. Who was known as Bhāradvāja?
