I think he went in fully confident, but he was probably not expecting the reaction to the trailer. Dhoom 3/Thugs only got pushback post release. I don't think that has happened to an Aamir film for a very long time.

There's no hype for the movie. I don't see it. Due to Aamir brand value it might open well but will it sustain? That might be worrying him.

People have caught onto his repetitive acting as well...just like Kaka was caught for not being versatile. Since then doom began for Kaka.
