1. Body Wash and Sugar
BOOM! A loud noise sounded from downstairs.
I force my eyes open. Ram is asleep next to me. Dragging myself out of bed, I scurry towards the kitchen. Pihu often wakes up eerily early in the morning and raids the kitchen.
I recall last weeks stance. Biscuits, chocolates, cakes and what not. I mentally shriek imagining the sugar rush she'll be on if I don't reach there to stop her in time.
I walk even faster.
All the lights are shut off. The kitchen is dimly lit due to a refrigerator door, carelessly left wide open.
I spot her. With a cookie in one hand and a tetra pack vanilla milkshake in the other Pihu is sloppily practicing pirouettes. She spins around stumbling to balance herself, takes a bite from the cookie and a sip from the milkshake.
Facepalming myself, I sigh.
I march in her direction and fold my arms across my chest when in close proximity. She looks up at me and smiles wryly. The smallest smile tugs on the corner of my lips but I immediately retain it.
Pihu turns around and keeps the cookie along with the milkshake on the kitchen isle not before closing the refrigerator door.
The room immediately goes all black. Alarmed, I move ahead and search for her. Suddenly, a beacon of light hits my eyes. Pihu stands right in front of my crouching form with a flashlight on hand. I squeak in terror.
"Mummaaaa I am cho solly" her high pitched voice echos in the empty kitchen.
"You scared me!" I exclaim, "what have I told you about sneaking around the kitchen at night?"
She pouts and looks at me wide eyed. She looks exactly like Mr. Kapoor.
Pihu is a spitting image of Ram. She's got his eyes, his love for food along with a dozen other mannerisms.
Rolling my eyes at her, I lift and place her on the isle. Handing her food back to her I grab a paper napkin and wipe her cookie crumble covered mouth.
"Bahot bhook lagi hain?" I enquire.
"No mumma. I ate a unicorn after dinner yesterday. I'll never be hungry again! Everrrrr!"
My eyes almost pop out. I stare at her flabbergasted. "A unicorn?! Where did you get a unicorn?"
"Offo mumma, I brought unicorn eggs from hamleys. Popsi brought them for me."
She makes the vaguest of stories in her head. A VERY imaginative child. Hamleys is the overpriced toy store Mr. Kapoor takes both Pihu and Rayansh to atleast once a month.
I mentally slap my forehead. These toy outings need to shop.
I play along with her, "Okay so you ate the unicorn eggs?"
Her eyes go wide again, horrified, as if I might've just said the most atrocious thing.
"The egg has the baby unicorn Mumma! How can I eat it?"
Realisation hits me. "Oh yes of course. How silly of me." I say weaving my fingers in the air and then facepalm myself. Trying to act extremely embarrassed of my blunder.
Figeting with her fingers she clarifies, "After the fist- flint"
Seeing her struggle to complete the word I interrupted "First?"
"Yes. The flinst egg hatched and a bright blue unicorn came out." Her eyes twinkle. She begins kicking her feet in excitement and placing her hands on either one of her cheeks continued. "I played with him and we went flying to see the rainbows mumma!"
I chuckle looking at her enthusiasm. Keeping my palm on my cheek "What was his name?"
I seem to have caught her off guard. Scratching the back of her neck she fumbles "ummm Rain... in the sky.. Rainsky."
I give out a throaty laugh. "That's a nice name. Where's Rainsky now?"
Her face falls the next instant. Panic gushes over me. Did I say something wrong? Or was I not listening closely enough?
I stand there contemplating what I might've done to make her upset when the looks down at her hands and I spot tears forming in her eyes.
I take another tissue and rush over to console her.
Wiping her tears i inquire, "kya hua bacche? Stop crying."
Taking the tissue from my hand she blows her nose in it. I observe her guilty face "I ate Rainsky mumma"
I really have no idea what to say to that. I simply look at her in bewilderment desperately hoping for her to continue.
"You use Body wash and soap to cook unicorns and then when you eat it you become magical!"
Saying so she bursts out into tears. Unable to make sense of the situation I am about to attempt pacifying her but something strikes me.
"Pihu! Did you eat body wash?" My eyes wide open in horror. Instinctively I cup her face and tug at her lower lip.
She looks at me confused. "Offo mumma! I used body wash wash to cook Rainsky like you use fire."
I sigh in relief. This is exhausting. I wish I would just go and wake Mr Kapoor up so he takes charge of the unicorn leveled mess. Poor guy, has been slaving away at work though. He deserves a little rest.
I take another napkin and rid Pihus hands of all the cookie crumbs. I hand her the half empty milkshake pack and lift her in my arms.
Placing her on the living room couch, I slide down next to her.
Comforting her in a side hug I try to change the flow of this conversation. Imitating her high pitched excited voice I clasp my hands together and speak up, "Well.. What magical powers do you have now?"
Sparkles return to her eyes. Crossing her legs on the sofa while wiggling her eyebrows she says, "That's a secret"
She bursts out laughing. I look at her, annoyance evident on my face. I let out a deep breath. "That's okay. You can tell me when you feel like" I give her a genuine smile. "Aren't you sleepy?" I eye the living room wall clock. "It's 5:30 in the morning baby. We should get you some sleep. Warna aaj pura din aap tired rahoge."
She gives a disapproving look. Pouting she says, "Mumma abhi Neend nahi aa rahi. Pleasee can I stay awake?"
I think for a minute. To make sure I don't ask her to sleep she puts on her high pitched excited voice again and with glimmering eyes says, "We can have a mumma-daughter date! Like the ones daddy takes me to. Daddy-daughter dates"
I laugh out loud and admire my little munchkin. My heart immediately melts as she clings onto me and snuggles.
I smile and caress her hair. "Okay. What should we do?"
"Thank you mumma. I love you most. We'll watch Cinderella! And eat ice cream. And then we'll watch frozen. And we can also eat popcorn-"
I chuckle and interrupt her "Accha baba theek hain. Stop now. But it's too early for icecream."
Her smile vanishes again. To cheer her up, I add, "you can help me make your favourite chocolate waffles instead. We'll make some waffles and watch Cinderella while eating them. That's good?"
She jumps off the sofa and hugging me says, "yesss. Best mumma daughter date ever!"
I chuckle and hugging her sweep her off the ground.
Nuzzling my nose with hers I say, "off to the kitchen"
We both laugh as I carry her.

I spread my hands around on the bed looking for Priya. When I don't find her I sit up, rubbing my eyes. She's not in our room. "Priya" I call out.
When she doesn't answer I get out of the bed and stretching my body check the time. It's already 8.
Priya must've woken up and gone down to prepare breakfast.
I walk groggily into the kitchen and when I don't find her there I check the living room. The Television is on and Cinderella is crying in it. My eyebrows go up in confusion so I go in front of the tv to check the sofa.
I find Priya and Pihu coddled up together together on the couch fast asleep. My lips immediately pull up in a smile.
I walk up to them and admire them. Both my girls look so adorable asleep. I then notice the position they are in. Pihu is sleeping comfortably over Priya who is sitting in a rather uncomfortable position. Priya has her arms swung around Pihu to secure her while she's asleep.
I gently pick Pihu up making sure that I'm not disturbing Priya. As soon as I take Pihu away Priya sits up startled.
I pay her head with one hand and drop a kiss on her forehead. "Good morning jaan. You wait here I'll put her to bed and then I can put my big baby to sleep too."
I wink as she blushes while smacking my arm. Dropping a soft kiss on her cheek i gallop towards Pihus room before Priya can catch me.
Life is good indeed.

Okay so I have no idea how that turned out. I'm not at all used to writing kids.
Hope it wasn't too obnoxious. Do vote, comment if you would wanna read more OSs like this.
