in regards to your cultural question -- so there was a harvard business article that MNC marketing in india should not have a single format but technically a format each tailored to the state. I laughed but the paper itself was spot on. we are indeed a "country of countries" -- think something like the EU for reference.

I had a prof tell me that 80% of culture comes from the language. we have 700+ languages according to the last census. there are 29 states and 7 union territories and everytime you cross the state line, you will find a different language. even sister states will have similar cultures as they speak language from the same language family but there are still differences when it comes to food, ideas etc. that is why it is difficult to make general statements about india because whatever is true is also false in another place in the country. so it is complicated like that.
the regions in general are south, east, northwest, west, central, northeast. all of them are very distinct from each other.
One don't have to cross the state borders to feel the difference. Even different districts of the same state will have slight difference in culture. 😆
There is a reason why we says unity in diversity.
