Dhadkan also comes in the category of glorifying forced marriage
Biwi No 1- instead of divorcing cheater and dishonest husband Pooja goes out of her way to make Sush life miserable and make Prem realise that only wife suitable for him is her who is a doormat, 24/7 devoted to him without self care not a self loving and straightforward Sush who is shown as a home wrecker even though Prem was the one who was two timing both
Kabir Singh- regressive or not but hella toxic 🤢
R. Raajkumar- I somehow can't fathom all the crap dialogues and Sonakshi being vulnerable to that extent.
Side note- Prabhu Deva should only stick to choreography not the patchwork of South Indian films he seems to make in Bollywood 🤔
All the crappy, vulgar, suggestive item songs
I get that ,….but I think settled is not equal to marriage or partnership with someone else …settled is financial and emotional/ mental stability and some sort of emotional support…like friends or family u can rely on….
naina was a strong willed girl who had her entire family behind her (post aman fixed her family problems ) …rohit had her back without or without marriage ….he was always there for her …she was settled in many ways …perhaps not romantically involved but that has to happen organically …which it will if she has he chance to heal in due course
I didn’t think getting her married would be the fix for her grief …her and rohit could have continued to date, be engaged and committed to each other, process their grief for aman and in due course get married one they feel ok …it’s exactly the same
….except that she wasn’t getting married with unprocessed grief in her head on her wedding day …and rohit isn’t as conflicted in his head next to his weeping bride
As a single person who does not want to marry or have kids, I know that being settled and content doesn't need a relationship. It has been a long journey for me to convince people that I am happy. So, I'll give you that the notion that someone needs to be in a romantic relationship is regressive.
In the case of this movie though, Rohit genuinely liked Naina. Until Aman shows up Naina too is affectionate toward Rohit and displays some jealousy and possessiveness for being just friends.
I also genuinely thought that Naina was in love with the idea of Aman rather than Aman himself. Part of it is my perception of romance. I genuinely believe that a friendship blossoming into more is more romantic, realistic, and fulfilling than being swept by a stranger.
But I'll give you that the marriage was perhaps unnecessary. They needn't have rushed. If they really loved each other they would have married eventually.
The forced marriage trope is very common, also used in a lot of romance novels. and like someone mentioned just because the guy you married to is a good guy the girl automatically falls in love.
I think with this trope a lot of it depends on the actors and presentation.
For example I totally bought the whole Ash and Ajay and was happy with it probably because I did not root for Salman's character and did not buy into that whole heart break. It felt more like a first love that you experience and move on. I loved seeing Nandini and Vanraj journey and thought they would succeed as a couple.
But in the same way for Ninnu Kori though the husband was a gem I did not know how the girl fell in love and thought it was a compromise and she made the best of it.
With Dhadkan I did not care for any of them and did not care who ended up with whom😂
Similarly for the tv show Kahiin to Hoga I did not get how the heroine fell in love with the guy she married when she was still attracted and on love with her ex love .
Like someone mentioned just because the guy you married to is a good person , you do not automatically fall in love with that person.
You will need to show the actual journey of falling in love or else it is a compromise

Any movie where a survivor of rape is married off to her rapist. Apparently there are quite a few BW movies with the same storyline.
I thought the same till l recently saw a Malayalam film Kanthavalayam convincingly execute the plot of rapist-victim romance. Proper writing can sell anything. Here's what they got right
1.Casting the most popular pair of that era (Jayan and Seema) to sell the difficult topic.
2. The hero is shown to be irredeemable from the beginning itself. He's damaged due to childhood abuse by his parents and sexually exploited by his step-sister in his teens. His ideas about women are all skewed He believes that every woman is a cheat, for sale and interchangeable. He confesses to murdering his parents, ruining innocents and even more.
3.The movie admits that the relationship is toxic. Her decision to have an affair with him even after the rape is prompted by her feelings of abandonment and loneliness. She had broken up her engagement. Her precious family whom she had been supporting had abandoned her. So yes, she's delusional about her feelings for the hero.
4.There was a powerful sexual attraction between the two even before the rape. She was uncomfortable because she was engaged to a man she loved. He didn't pursue her initially because he thought her a so-called good girl.
5. The film doesn't give them a happy ending .
Same here and hated Devdas, the over acting killed the entire movie essence. His best acting according to me is Anjaam, made me hate his character. I really Dewaana alot and also Dil Se

Benaam Badshaah had more or less similar equation between the leads
Won't put Kal ho na ho in the category of regressive but it was problematic for sure
God knows how Naina would have felt when she got to know of Aman's illness..The guy she loved also loved her back and she didn't get to experience it till the very end..when she could have been with Aman in his most difficult times, she didn't even know about his suffering..It actually hurts to know u could've been there for someone but couldn't.. Just coz u didn't know. Nothing is more painful then the feeling that someone u r so emotionally attached to doesn't even share their pain with u.

That sounds like a very complicated storyline. Kudos to the director for having put the point across well. Although I'm not sure if a lot of the Indian audience was able to grasp it. The problem with Indian audience is that the difference and intricacies of such sensitive subjects have to be spelt out otherwise it goes whoosh over our heads (atleast the majority of mainstream audience). And most directors lack the knack to handle movies with heavy subjects (KANK Or recent Gehraiyaan). In such a case it becomes a parody or worse yet, the Gospel truth for launde lapates.
Two movies I absolutely loathe now are Rehna hai tere dil mein and kuch kuch hota hai.
Much have been discussed about kkhh. Not going to continue.
Rehna hai....once upon a time was my fav. But now when I watch the movie and remember how I used to gush over Maddy, I stand in front of the mirror and slap myself on both my cheeks. One for liking movie and the other for liking the horrible baap beta duo. I hate that gyaan given by Anupam Kher aka baap in the airport. Such a regressive, bullshit, misogynist movie. Some regressive dialogues were there too, I don't remember exactly.
And sach keh raha deewana, another bullshit song. Jhooth kehke ladki ko phasaya and when the girl retaliated, Majnu ka rona start ho gaya. After all saari galti to ladki ki hai. Phaltu movie and usse bhi phaltu characters
