Alisha.

Even the secretary's desk at Rathore Constructions headquarters was more luxurious than the offices of many CEOs.

Granted the CEOs whose offices she was comparing her desk with were young entrepreneurs who didn't have the necessary capital to fund their dreams but her point still stood. If the fate that this capitalist society had decided for her was to slave away in the lifeless corporate sector then she'd rather serve in a well-established company than slog away at a start up where they served motivation for lunch and promises as bonus.

And if her boyfriend couldn't understand that then that was purely his loss. He could eat the lofty dreams for lunch, dinner, breakfast all he wanted; she was done compromising on her self-indulgent aspirations for him. That son of a gun could call her a high-profile serving girl all he wanted (though the imprint of her hand on his cheek made sure he would never say that again) but Alisha knew - her new job rocked!

She was the secretary to the company's CEO himself.

Okay she was one of his secretaries. She was the outside secretary. Some would call her a receptionist but Alisha preferred to call herself the secretary. People didn't really need to know that her job was essentially to keep track of who came to visit the CEO and receive packages on behalf of the CEO and basically make sure that no unwanted person came anywhere close to the CEO's office without explicit permission.

Not exactly a very exciting job but Alisha would not trade it for the world. For what it was worth the job gave her a sense of power. Anyone who wanted to get in the office of the CEO first had to get through her. And man oh man, the number of people who wanted to get just a moment inside the CEO's office was not a small one. Just the other day she saw the MD of a well-known company wait for almost 2 hours just to have a 3 minutes meeting with the CEO. It was hilarious. The man had walked in on the floor like he owned a part of the world and stated the purpose of his visit. Alisha had told him that the CEO was busy with a meeting and that it would take him some time to be free. The man insisted that it was an urgent matter which could not wait.

Alisha asked him the standard question: did he have an appointment?

He didn't. Predictable.

"I'm afraid I cannot let you in without an appointment. You can either take an appointment now or you can wait. Sir will be done in a couple of hours."

"I cannot wait for a couple of hours! I have important things to do!"

"Understandable. Should I mark down your visit? Sir will get back to you when he's done with his prior commitments."

"Do that! And tell him I'll be looking forward to his callback. I cannot bloody come all way here again. I have important things to do!"

"Sure. Sir will get back to you by the end of August."

"August?! That's five months away! Are you joking with me right now?!"

"I am not at the liberty to make jokes. I did say Sir will get back to you once he's done with his prior commitments. His calendar is full till August end. That too is subject to change. But like I said, you can wait around in the lobby if you want."

That had taken away the pompous air out of the man's body. Alisha smirked at the recollection. Too many people came in sauntering in the building thinking they could have their way with Aryan Singh Rathore. All of them either went back dejected or tired after dancing to his tunes.

Alisha was sorting out some mail and didn't notice the lift open. Some person had passed by her desk and was approaching the CEO's office without bothering to state their name and purpose of visit with her.

"Excuse me! You cannot go in there." Alisha called out to the person. The person, a woman, stopped in their tracks and turned around. Well, it happened to be a young woman. She was dressed in jeans and a long kurta, standard attire for young, college going girls. Her hair was long and half tied with simple braids. There was nothing striking about the girl except maybe the three dots on her chin in the form of a triangle.

"Hain?" The looked at her quizzically. Alisha felt annoyance creep on her. She took in more details about the girl. Her clothes were not only plain but also dirty; as if she had spent the day running around and maybe fell down a few times while running. There was a bag slung over her shoulder from which Alisha could see a few books peeking out. Her entire look could be explained in one word - shabby.

"I said, you cannot go in there." Alisha repeated in a firmer tone.

"Why? Is AB-Aryan Singh Rathore not in?" The girl replied with a question. Alisha was offended. There was something so impertinent about the way she said her boss's name like he wasn't one of the most powerful men in the country. No one spoke about him like that, let alone this random girl who Alisha didn't know how was even allowed entry in the building let alone on the CEO's floor!

"You cannot go in like that. Do you have an appointment?" Alisha didn't bother to mask her annoyance. She had seen much more powerful people than this random girl plead her to fast track their appointment with the CEO. This shabby girl was the last person on earth Alisha felt compelled to act civil towards.

"Appointment? Are you new here?" The girl made a baffled face. "Whatever. If he's in there I have to go in."

Alisha felt panic and anger rise within her simultaneously. Panic because it was literally her job to not let anyone in without explicit permission. And anger because the panic was due to this stupid, impudent girl!

Thankfully there was no one around in the lobby so Alisha got up from her chair and quickly rushed towards the girl. Alisha's long limbs worked in her favor and with just a few steps she reached the girl and pulled her back before she could barge in the CEO's office.

"Arey!" The girl called out indignantly but Alisha didn't care. She gave a quick glance at the CEO's office and cursed the fact that the blinds were not drawn. The walls of the office were made of glass so it was easy to see inside it. Just like it was easy to see outside from within it. Thankfully, the CEO was busy in his meeting and didn't seem to have noticed the tiny commotion outside. So, all Alisha had to do was drag the girl away from the office and get her kicked out.

"Stay away girl! I said you cannot go in!" Alisha whispered angrily and tried to drag the girl away. But the girl had the strength of a wrestler. She just wouldn't budge!

"Aye! Let me go! Why are you pushing me?!" The pulled her arm free. "How do you have such long nails?! I feel like the Picchal Pairi dayan was dragging me away to eat me!"

The girl was frowning at her. Alisha didn't understand the reference the girl made but she knew it was something offensive.

"Get out of here right this very instant or I'll call the security!" Alisha warned.

"Lady I don't even want to stay here. Which is why I am saying to let me go in and do what I am here to do so I can leave! I am already late!"

"You cannot go in there!" Alisha was usually a nonviolent person but at that very moment she wanted to slap the girl.

"FINE! If I cannot go in then I'll make the darned Akkadbagga come out!" The girl stomped her feet. Alisha flinched at her sudden outburst and the girl needed just that moment to start banging on the office walls.

Well. There went Alisha's job.

Alisha could only stand there, frozen, as the girl banged the office walls with her fist. She banged and she banged until the CEO glanced up from the file he was discussing with some of the other company higher ups. Alisha saw the way the CEO's eyes widened before he dropped the file on the table and swiftly got up from his chair.

Seeing the boss get up from his chair like this, the rest of the people in the office also paused whatever they were doing and got up. Alisha looked at the girl who had stopped banging the glass wall now that she had achieved her purpose of getting Alisha fired and then at the CEO who was now pulling open the door of his office.

"What are you doing here?" Aryan Singh Rathore cried out as soon as he opened the door. Alisha opened her mouth to answer but closed it when she realized he wasn't addressing her. In fact, he wasn't even looking at her. His entire attention was on the girl.

"Trying to get to you." The girl shrugged.

If Alisha had any hope of her job being saved, it all died down the second she saw Aryan Singh Rathore reach out towards the girl and start dusting off her shoulders. His hand then moved towards her face and he gently wiped off some dirt off it.

"You could've just called."

"My phone died."

Aryan Singh Rathore's eyebrow shot up. Alisha had seen that action reduce many confident people into a blubbering mess but this girl slapped his hand away.

"Ohho, I am fine ABP! Stop wasting my time! I am very busy!"

"Busy? Imlie! I just walked out of a meeting with people from all over the country because you were banging the office wall. And they are all staring at you now!"

Alisha blinked. She had forgotten that this bizarre scene could be witnessed by the people within the office. She saw the slightly confused and highly amused faces of some of the most powerful and important people of the Rathore Empire looking at the girl. The girl who now had a nervous grin on her face and her hands folded in greeting.

"Jai Sita Maiyaa Ki! You all are working very hard! But don't work too hard. This man already has enough money to fill all the wells of Rajasthan!" The girl, Imlie, said out loud. Her remark earned her a few chuckles and a hearty laugh from Mr. Purab Khurana, one of the oldest and most trusted part of Aryan Singh Rathore's personal team.

Imlie. Why did the name sound familiar?

"I'll just take a moment of Aryan's time and then I'll be out of your hair. Jai Sita Maiyaa Ki!" Imlie said before pulling close the door.

Aryan Singh Rathore held Imlie's hand and walked past Alisha without sparing her a single glance. Alisha's gaze followed the pair as they moved to a more private corner in the lobby away from the eyes of the people in the office. Alisha could no longer hear what the pair talked about but still, she couldn't keep her eyes off of them.

She looked at her boss, the man who she had often thought was incapable of having any softer emotions, caress the hand of the girl he was holding with a thumb as he listened intently to whatever she was saying. And she was saying a lot judging by the speed at which her lips were moving. At one point Aryan interrupted her and made a remark that resulted in the girl slumping her shoulders and pouting. Aryan let go her hand and put his arm around her shoulder to pull her in a hug. Alisha saw the girl's arms wrapped around her boss's waist as if it was the most natural thing for them to do. She stood on her tiptoes and snuggled her face in the nook of Aryan's neck. And when Aryan Singh Rathore planted a kiss on Imlie's forehead, that's when Alisha turned her face away.

The picture frame on the CEO's desk flashed in her mind as realization hit her. She had seen that picture frame only once, on the day she was hired and she was shown the corner of the CEO's table where she was to drop any urgent packages in the office when the CEO's in-office secretary was absent. The picture had Aryan Singh Rathore in a similar position as Alisha had just witnessed.

Arms around his wife's, Imlie Aryan Singh Rathore's, shoulders who was laughing as her husband kissed her on the side of her forehead.

When Alisha glanced at the couple again, they had stepped away from each other. Alisha looked away again when her eyes met with Mrs. Aryan's. Now, Alisha wasn't a very religious person but in that moment she called upon all the gods she could remember and begged for a miracle. Who even was unaware of the nightmares that the wives of the bosses were towards the secretaries. Specially when the secretary was young and beautiful like Alisha. Even more specially when the said young and beautiful secretary had just tried to assault the wife.

Alisha was so screwed.

Unable to help herself, Alisha looked towards the pair again and saw that Mrs. Aryan was in the lift waiting for the doors to close. She was enthusiastically waving goodbye to her husband who was looking at her with a smile on his face. As soon as the doors of the lift closed, Aryan Singh Rathore turned around to walk back to his office. Alisha noticed that the smile was no longer on his lips but the sparkle in his eyes told her where it had gone to.

Alisha braced herself for a lashing of a lifetime but the CEO simply walked past him after giving her a little nod when he noticed her looking at him. Alisha was shocked. Did her prayers really come true? Was she really spared? Did a miracle happen?

"Miss Sinha?"

Or not.

"Yes sir!" She turned around to see Aryan Singh Rathore looking at her thoughtfully.

"My wife was really impressed by your commitment to your duties. Keep up the good work. I'll let the finance department know to give you an early raise. Good day."

And then he was gone in the office.

If she was a cartoon it would be this moment when Alisha's jaw would literally drop on the floor. She stood on her spot completely frozen with her mouth hanging open for she didn't even know how long.

What had just happened?! Did she just get a raise for stopping the CEO's wife from meeting her husband?!

Her head spinning, Alisha dragged her feet back to her seat and practically crashed on it. The events of the afternoon played in her mind again and again and yet, she couldn't make any sense of it. She was scared of losing her job just minutes ago and now she was promised a pay raise by the CEO of her company itself? How was she even supposed to react to that?

Alisha felt so out of it that she didn't notice a folded piece of paper kept on top of her computer's laptop. Confused, she picked it up and opened it. It was a hastily written handwritten note.

Keep his appointments less so he can get home for dinner every night. And next time just let me go in quietly to save us all some trouble, eh? :) I tend to miss my husband when I don't see him for some time.

Tears welled up in Alisha's eyes. She wasn't usually the sentimental kind but the day's events had shaken her. And this note was her last straw.

"Of all the places to witness stupid true love...I had to witness it here. Now I can't even settle for anything less! Damn you both Rathores, damn you to hell!"

A/N : I have had this idea of writing AryLie through the eyes of others for a while now. Originally I was going to write small snippets and present them all in just a single oneshot but would it be me if I don't write long? xD So, I guess this is a first installment of this series? I have a couple of these planned so if you all liked this, I can write them as well :) The snippets will be based on AryLie's life and relationship in various different stages but mostly post-canon and definitely not AU.

As always, comments and feedback is welcomed whole heartily! And hey! Hopefully this one will soothe the victims of my previous writings xD See! I too can write soft and happy stuff. It's not all doom and gloom with me :P

Happen to read this today. Its a beautiful piece of creation❤️. We have a future big writer among us. Please dont forget to share names of books when you publish.
