No! There's no such Hindu law!

7 pheras are too hyped by mass communication things like TV, movies and shows!

Most Hindu practices follow 4 pheras only, some do 7 as well! But in either ways, you can't say marriage isn't valid!

My mom has 4 pheras. I had 7 but there was 4 as vachan ones 3 is like pandit ji said aaj kal sab kehne lage h k pandit ji 7 hote h aap 4 kyu krate ho toh hum 3 bhagwaan k naam ki pheri lagva dete h. Us dauraan koi vachan nae bole the pandit ji ne

Also in our culture, there's a rasam called 'Toran' when baraat comes to the gate and before Mother in law welcomes the groom!

It's like a wooden plate with Parrot made it in, hung at the entrance gate and the groom has to slash it with his sword or knock it thrice with Neem plant's stick!

At my side it's always 7 pheras.and this practice is existing since long time. Iam from Varanasi.

But yes some do have 4 pheras. My friend(who is gujarati) had 4 pheras and I was surprised to learn this.
